I applied for a course and got score of 90 but cut off for same course was 90.001

I didnt get it because 0.001. I will ring and talk to admission officer tomorrow.

  • Tell them they are required by law to round down…

    Good luck though…

    • I am sure that you are joking or not…

      Thank you 😊

Don't worry just go to a TAFE that has a similar course and jump ship after 6 or 12 months. Don't be too concerned, even if you jump ship from one institution to another the time it takes you will be the same and the certificate at the end will be from the institution you wanted.

    • Only 1 tafe (Mt Lawley) has this course and they offer it once every year in second semester only

      Diploma of Anesthetic Technology

Feeling really unhappy because of this 0.001 difference. Hoping that admission officer will understand and can change the offer letter

0.001 can mean the matter of life and death when measuring anaesthetics.

    • Thanks @Mishgy

If I understand the way entrance score works is, they have a quota of how many students will be accepted. If their intake is 50 people, and we apply it to your score, the 50th candidate had a score of 90.001.

This may explain why, entrance score seems to change every year for the same subjects ( assuming student intake doesn't change).

Best of luck for what you are seeking.

    • It does make sense. Thank you

Just checked and they have waitlist open.

If they have all seats filled, they shouldn't have wait list open. Don't you think so?

some people may still drop out from their 1st preference, if they do and you are in position 51 (from my example), yes you could still get it.

You should try and put your name down?

        • Thanks you

This is how I understand it as well. Also keep in mind OP that people apply for both TAFE and Uni, so some may get in the course but not take up the subject and go to a uni one instead for some other course.
As you have above, best to talk to an admission officer as there is typically other pathways and sometimes it opens up by the next semester due to student drop outs and the like.

      • Thank you

  • How much will you earn in this job OP?

Wow, must be different in WA to NSW. I have never had to sit an entrance exam or had any minimum score to get or had to beg to get into TAFE. Even if a class if full, they just say “sorry, we’re full” and put your name down for the next class.

Christ, over here in NSW, they are basically begging for students at most TAFE centres.

Have you looked into doing the course externally? Do it at another TAFE that is further away and doing it remote where you might still have to attend some classes?

    • Same in VIC. A lot of the courses are now even free. My son had to do a literacy and numeracy proficiency test for TAFE but that was just to clarify if you may need extra help to complete the course.

      • It is same for almost all the courses in WA except for few like these one

I missed my first preference back in the day too. Silly me though as I didn't know at the time that the course entrance score was demand driven. The double degree version was easier to get into verses the single degree so still got in for this reason. Not sure how TAFE works these days, but see if there are alternative methods of enrolling apart from trying to get through the normal method.

Ahh.. I'm so glad I'm done with all the stresses of schooling/uni, entrance scores, exams, finding a job etc etc. Now I can stress about not losing my job, money, future, house, office gossip/politics, death…

    Good luck!

TAFE has an entrance cut off?

I always assumed TAFE was just a come as you please sort of institution

I would make the phone call and talk to the admin officer. Be really friendly about it and say how eager you are about the course. You can ask about the odds on getting an offer, if people drop out, and what the wait times are likely to be. The secret is don’t get aggro, or whiney, no matter what the answer is. You want to get into the course not complain about how unfair it is.

    Best of luck.

    • Thank you. This is what I exactly going to do. 🤞

  • Tough luck, just go with your second preference.
