  • Good discount, but quite a few of the reviews for that model say they're not up to Nikon's usual quality.

I had this same model 10 years ago. It is better than most other models at this price.

I am not sure if the quality went downhill since then.

Anyway, I reordered another one today from amazon. Hopefully it still has the same quality from 10 years ago.

I just like it because it has the 10-22 zoom function with a fairly large aperture @50. Only problem is when you need to zoom to x22, I need to place it on a tripod to stabilise my hand shaking.

it's a trade off with any thing that zooms. If you want better quality get a fixed lens, eg 10 x 50. It's hard to hold the binoculars steady enough once you get over 10x anyway. These would be much better and also awesome in low light - I also think this is a much better deal! https://www.amazon.com.au/Nikon-BAA814SA-10X50-ACULON-A211/d…

Good quality at this price point, any poor reviews are unreasonable imo.

  • Thank you. Got the Amazon warehouse one for $128. Hopefully nothing wrong with it except the packaging.

  • Can you view planets stars with these?

There's no substitute for a telescope. These binoculars go up to 22x zoom, a budget telescope for astronomy will go over 200x.

Yes to some degree. Jupiter will look like a tiny pearl and its 4 inner moons 4 dots, and you cam see the rings of Saturn. Open star clusters and some globular clusters can also be observed with these on a clear night.

      • Recommendations for abudget telescope?

        • It depends on what you'd like to observe and how serious one is into the hobby. Assuming you're talking about telescope for the night sky (and not a terrestrial telescope), a decent entry level will be a 5 to 6-inch Newtonian telescope. Newtonian telescopes are inexpensive and does a bit of everything. Sometimes you can find one in Aldi when they go on sale. If you want a more "serious" brand I'd go for Celestron or Meade but they cost a lot more as well.

Definitely not going find Leica or Carl Zeiss at this price point.

Agree.I lived and worked in Africa and spent lots of time in Game Reserves in South Africa and Kenya. The 10x50 is the perfect size for general purpose animal and bird watching.

  • Damn, left it to late. Now says dispatched within 1-2 months

Thanks OP. Picked up the 10x50 for my dad for delivery tomorrow.

  • Received mine - Image quality is really great. (been looking at surfers with the sun around)

      So fast delivery

  • I went with the 10x50 model. The moving piece that holds the eyepieces is cheap flimsy plastic. I've never seen such poor quality from Nikon. I'm returning them.
