"Previous Insurer" Question on Car Insurance Quote

Changing the answer to who your previous insurer significantly changes my quote. Is accidentally mixing up this information likely grounds to reduce or terminate any insurance claim?

I thought insurers could clearly and easily check who your previous was? Or is this another "gotcha" for them to not pay you?

Just answer the question truthfully…..Did you expect a different suggestion?

  • Go with the one that gives the cheapest result. It's all to do with comparable prices.

Whether you had insurance previously or not whether you've been denied insurance previously will impact the way they assess your risk level, but
who your previous insurer was has no impact and there would be no basis for them to decline a claim based on that information

Denied insurance if you lie can cause your insurance to be null and void.
100% in agreement with who the previous insurance company was/is.

      • Denied insurance if you lie can cause your insurance to be null and void.

It's not as simple to just deny a claim They have to show that, had they known about what you've failed to disclose, they would have denied your cover in the first place.

    • while who your previous insurer was should not impact their risk levels, if you lie on the application form they could deny claim and charge you with fraud, as you state all information supplied is true and correct

      • Like I said above, it's not as simple for the insurer to just flat out deny a claim .

All of the insurance companies do this. The only way to stay with the current insurer is to ring them up and say that the internet quote if I am a new customer is $XYZ and as such can you match it or not. If they do not come to the party then go onto the internet and become a new customer, but be aware that depending on the company you may end up with a new account and it will not be linked to your current policy.

Sharing data between different companies is NOT good business practice and allows the other company to market to you to change companies. Saying that there are only a few insurance companies that own a number of brands and sharing data between the different brands would be easy, but it doe snot appear to be done for some reasoon I do not understand.

  • one reason for different prices re who your previous insurer is because of different coverage levels between insurers

  • How much were the quote differences??
