Ooni Karu 12 Multi-Fuel Pizza Oven $549 Delivered (RRP $659) @ Harrods

90

At least $100 cheaper than any other standalone Ooni Karu 12 prices I could find. Note this is without the optional gas burner - but this isn't normally included in the base pack so doesn't impact deal $ vs RRP $.

Obviously if you're looking at getting one of the various bundles available from some of the other websites, this may not be as good value.

Ooni got the nod versus Roccbox and Solo Stove Pi. I wanted both gas and and wood cooking. Very very close to buying the Solo Stove Pi, but what sealed it for me was the Ooni's chimney and portability. Wish I could afford the Karu 16, but couldn't justify paying over $1k for my first plunge into the hobby.

Happy dealing!

  • Sold and shipped by Harrods UK?

    • Not sure. But I did email and check that I would be charged in $AUD and they confirmed that prices were shown local to the country and would be charged as such.

Edit - just checked my statement and can confirm I was charged in $AUD.

  • The site convert it to AUD, but I believe you will get charged in GBP.
They have the Karu 16 for AUD 1265 delivered and locally it cost AUD 1700, but I believe you would get charged GST and import duty if over AUD1,000.

    • Can confirm got charged in AUD. I also checked with them via email prior to purchasing. $1265 for the 16 is amazing, but over $1k - just couldn't justify it.

      • That is good, so it will be delivered from UK, right? So if someone buy the Kura 16, it will has to pass custom? Are you planning to only use wood or buy additional gas burner locally? I have the Ooni Koda 12 clone in gas from BBQ Galore for $350 and its so easy setup with gas in my case, heats up to 500c in 15 min..

        • Wood to start with. Gas when I eventually get lazy, yes will buy local.

        • How you finding the clone? Making good pizzas?

          • +1

@CantonasKungFuKick: Its same design, flame shape, stone size/thickness as the Koda 12, it reach 500c in ~15min, the knob controller at the side unlike the Koda which is at the back, so positioned better for easy access. Once stone reach high temp I turn the flame to lowest possible and turn pizza every 15 sec so does not burn, impressive result. I also cooked steak, chicken, vegies and will try pitta bread next.

        • Rate the BBQ galore clone? I'm eyeing one up

          • @ctrlchris: If you happy with nominal 12" size oven then you can't beat the BBQ Galore one for value for money - $349 for the built quality and end result (It is basically same as Koda 12 - $650). The Roccbox is same size but might be better built (thicker stone and better insulation) cost $799 with included pizza peel.
Initially I was looking for Koda 16 as it is bigger, so make it easier to cook pizza and other items and comes with thicker stone than the 12 oven, but that cost ~ $1250.

            • @huntabargain: Yeah I can second the 12" one from BBQ's Galore.
For the price it's pretty hard to beat. (I know some people rate the Coles one that was $99, but it was limited availability at that price)

I have had mine for 2 months. Cook pizza every Saturday night and getting pretty good at it now.

I do wish it was a little bigger. The 12" size means you don't have a lot of room to move, so it's not overly beginner friendly, but stick with it and you will be cooking great pizzas in no time.

I did see someone built a door for theirs. I would like to see how that works. For now I have an old pizza stone that I rest up against the opening to trap some more heat. Once it gets up to temp it's great though.

I just have it at full gas for 20-30 minutes. Turn it down to low when I start the cook, and once the cornice has all risen, crank it back up to get the topping to melt and brown up a little. By the time you get inside, eat a few slices, build the next pizza, it's ready to roll again.

  • hmmm this is tempting.

i wouldn't buy gas burner from the UK though, but it seems easy enough to buy a local one here.

i recently wasted about $225 on a crap Chinese pellet oven from Vevor.

    • Yep didn't go for the pellet Ooni as it seemed to burn through fuel way too quickly.

      • Well I think you need fuel to get it hot, and pellets are pretty easy to come by.

But my crappy Chinese doesn't have enough airflow. I think I'll try and mod it.

I've had Ooni in my OzB watchlist for a while though… So tempting.

    • Just out of interest, why not gas burner from UK? Different safety or something? Or worry about getting damaged in transit?

      • Might not fit Aus LPG bottle system, also its regulator might have different pressure.

        • Ah, fair enough. Didn't realise it wasn't standard internationally!

          • @caprimulgus: No, me neither. But I did some quick research and it seems the UK has higher pressure bottles.

  • Does the ceiling of these things get super hot like a brick pizza oven so you can "dome" the pizzas?

    • +1

There is very little stored heat in these things, other than the pizza stone base. They cook the top from the transfer of heat from the back to the chimney at the front. It's literally flame pouring through the oven a few cm above the pizza.

I have an older ooni and they get insanely hot. I use a temp gun and start cooking when the stone hits 450c

Anyone know how warranty claims would be handled purchasing from overseas?
