How Do Boost Recharges Work on 12 Month Plans?

Hi,

Have been on Telstra post paid for a VERY long time, but looking to tighten the belt and grab a Boost 12 month SIM @ $150ish. My question is, how does the recharge work… the 140GB of data is probably enough as I tend to use about 10GB a month, but what happens if I run out at month 11, is the only recharge option then to pay $200 for a 100GB pack with 1 month remaining validity?!?

Cheers!

If you run dry on data midway through the month and need more, you can add-on extra data at any time by paying $5 or $20.

$5 for 1GB / $20 for 4GB are pretty horrible prices per GB.

It could be cheaper to buy a half-price (short term) Belong, Woolies / Whatever prepaid sim from the supermarket specials (which runs almost perpetually), put it into the second SIM slot of your phone (or activate as an eSIM) and use that for data.

Or you can play the dinosaur game for a month….

      • By going extinct?

        • On Android phones if you have no internet connection it loads up a jumping dinosaur game to keep you occupied.

        • Go to chrome://dino if you're browsing in Chrome or Brave browser

    • If you join now, it is no longer an option to add data pack on 12 months plan.

Of you recharge another 200 dollars, the 13 months validity just resets.

  • Cool - thank you!

  • Can look at something like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/224905575494

best cost saving option is ofcourse to keep porting in and out, Recharge is not the most cost effective option

    • I tried "porting out and port in" earlier this year… Total nightmare experience!

I was able to port out (to Kogan), after a couple of days I tried porting back to Boost - but kept receiving error that I'm already a Boost customer. (Even though my number was now active with Kogan??)

I called Boost and was told the same thing… Anyway long story short, even though I had ported out somewhere in the background my number was still active on their system.. Took numerous calls to get it sorted.

      • may be boost also has a 30 day hidden waiting timeframe for users

        • Not sure… This was the first time i've tried this tactic - that's why I even left it a couple of days before trying to port back in..

I read many comments on here from people who have ported out and back in literally within hours without any issue so I'm thinking i just had bad luck!

        • No they don't. I ported out to Kogan and back to Boost within 2 days last month. Alternatively you can ask Boost customer service to activate a new SIM pack and keep your number + plan with Boost after first 12 months, no need to recharge.

  • will these 12 month plans work on telstra locked oppo phone,

    • Boost uses Telstra line and thus technically, it should be compatible with any Telstra locked phone.
If wanna be sure, test your phone with a 28 days Boost prepaid SIM, which usually goes on sale for about $10.

Boost currently has a $30 SIM on sale for $10:

  • thanks for the advice, will do in the meantime, any one using boost on locked telstra phones successfully
