    Special.com.au is only good for immediate hit and run during promos. Never seen a company take all of your money for using a promo code in a way their own systems allowed. At worst they should have issued a refunded and not honoured the promos.

    There's a 10% WELCOME code displayed on the main page, is it correct to assume that a $148 GC is $133.20 with code. Then get $19.98 back from AMEX, so it only costs $113.22?

        I agree the options are more limited… but one of ways you should be able to use the Pub Crawler gift card in-store at First Choice Liquor or Vintage Cellars or Liquorland to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card. (FCL and VC are listed as featured retailers of the Pub Crawler gift card, and the Pub Crawler gift card should work at LL too.)

          Are you sure all Special gift cards work everywhere? I originally thought the same too, but in the last Special deal:

          • I tried to use a Super Shopper gift card at the ATO. It didn’t work.

          • Someone else tried to prepay their AGL energy bill using a Special gift card. It didn’t work.

          • Someone else tried using it to pay for some government and utility bills. It didn’t work.

          • Someone else bought a Spa gift card and tried to redeem it a number of gift card portals (e.g. Prezzee, Shopback, Cashrewards, Woolworths Group). It didn’t work. The Woolworths Group gift card portal has a MCC of a supermarket, so it indicates that Spa gift cards cannot be used at any supermarkets.

          I would call Special gift cards category-restricted gift cards. Just don’t ask me what the permitted categories are for each Special gift card, because Special is very opaque about that.

            @WookieMonster: That's because it is essentially a pre paid card which I don't think work for utilities and bills.

            There are others like me haven't had an issue redeeming specific gift cards using them at different stores.

            Maybe some are restricted.

              @Korban Dallas: True, but then you cannot say that a Special gift card “works anywhere”, especially when other (non-Special) prepaid gift cards (e.g. Coles Mastercard gift cards, Vanilla Visa gift cards) can be used to pay for utilities, government charges, health insurance, etc (subject to acceptance by the merchant).

              The Chill Seeker gift card is what makes me think Special gift cards really are category-restricted gift cards. However, I think the issue is that no one outside of Special knows for certain what the permitted categories are and it looks like Special whitelists a very broad range of categories (when compared with Indue and TCN, anyway).

              I’m not overly surprised to see the Latte Lover gift card work at Woolworths, considering:

              • Woolworths Group’s gift card portal is classified as a supermarket, and

              • Woolworths and Woolworths Metro stores are classified as a supermarket (unless you're doing an EFTPOS cashout, in which case Woolworths and Woolworths Metro are no longer classified as a supermarket), and

              • The majority of Woolworths Metro stores across Australia actually have a barista to make coffee for customers. Any payments for barista-made coffee at Woolworths Metro goes through the same checkout as the one you use for groceries, so a card issuer will see you were at a supermarket, not a cafe.

      Unless you can immediately flip it for a gift card (or use it as intended), you also run the risk of them deciding to close your account and disable your card just because.

      All working fine. Only thing was that unlike traditional eGift Cards, it wasn't immediately obvious need to generate credit card details and to use like normal credit cards. Went back and forth looing for payment by gift card option. :D

    Tried to buy $135 shopper card.

    Went through amex security check, went fine.

    Payment screen said there was an error and to try a different payment method.

    But i just got my Amex success email and I see my available balance has been hit by $135 but there is no actual transaction.

    And I have no gift card. And my Special account shows no purchase history.

    After reading through this very helpful thread,
    managed to
    - get the $134 special card shopper
    - add as payment method in shopback
    - buy the $125 shopback shopper gift card*
    - withdraw shopback funds leaving $1
    - buy the $10 shopback amazon gift card (using withdrawal and remaining special card balance)*

    Double check that you are paying with the special gift card!!!

    Has anyone been able to get the WELCOME 10% off code to work? I created a new account for this deal and bought a DIY card to use at Bunnings. Went to try the WELCOME code for a $200 Pub Crawler card (10% off to a max of $20) on the same account and while checking out in the app I was getting an invalid promo code error. I wonder if it was because I was trying to use the code on my second purchase?

    Amex would honour any issue that arrises people.

    Just did the following:

    -$134 Special GC

    • $20 Amex Cashback
    • $5 Cashback via Shopback on $100 GC
    • $2 Amazon on $100 GC via Shopback
    • $1.36 4% Discount on $34 NRMA Woolworths GC

    Basically $28.36 of extra value.

    Could of had more with 10% back on a eBay GC purchase or 15% via Shopback but Amazon is my go to

      It seems they use Freshdesk for customer support.

      Surprisingly the APIs rely on Basic Auth, in this case the API Key is invalid, so you get a 403 response, meaning access denied.

      Got told the following from CS:

      Our Anti-Fraud systems sees multiple purchases in short span of time as a fraudulent transactions, hence has blocked further purchases.
      Can I suggest waiting until the next day and trying to make the remainder of the purchases. I believe it's just a daily limit.
