  • Should be ok. Heaps of other choices though

    • +1

True but Outlander is the more bang for buck type suv.

  • Why don't you test drive one? Not available yet?

    • +1

Oh I did but for only like 10 minutes which does not mean much. Feels ok. Want to hear from others who's own and driven it for months.

      • 10min? Just around the dealer car park?
Go back and ask for longer test drive, tell them your intentions are high.

How much did you pay for it?

        Most likely whatever the RRP

        How's the fuel consumption?

Should be on the sticker (otherwise all depends on the driver)

        Is it comfortable?
        Your like and dislike?

Since they bought it, I assume they liked it. You have to remember, this is a Toyota/ Tesla forum.

NEW Mitsubishi Outlander 2022 Yay Yea or Nay

  • Plug in hybrid? Otherwise nay.

    • Unless you are in VIC where they tax electrified vehicles extra

      • +2

In VIC better off buying hybrid (not plug in)

  • +3

A lot of people voting no, but not saying why or other options

    • +1

      Right? Super helpful..

    • That's what I didn't get. So many "nay" votes, yet there are so many Outlanders out there. Someone must be saying "yes".

      • This is so true. I see them on the road all the time.

        • Only because they’re the cheapest vehicle suitable for Uber XL

      • They’ve also been popular for fleets in recent years. Cheapest ‘7 seater’ probably.

  • colour options are terrible. top of the range is black or white

    • Shame when all anyone wants is grey

  • Mitsubishi are now sharing the parts bin from Renault/Nissan if I'm not mistaken.

Given the old Outlander was already a low end experience, I don't anticipate much from the new one with additional DNA from Renault/Nissan.

    • yeah they are

same DI n/a 2.5 and same cvt etc

i would wait… see what happens when nissan releases the new Xtrail and trade off dealers

i dont like mitsu or nissan or renault or any of these boring suvs but really, what do you expect for $40k?

also i would kind of stay away from turbo 1.5 piles in this range

10yr cover on the mitsu (fwiw) seems to be a not mediocre

    Better Mitsubishi than MG.

parents bought their outlander new in 08 and still going strong today!

    • The 2008 Outlander may still be going strong but even new was a rubbish driving experience.

The 2022 is quite impressive and modern.

  • Limited experience with them but the reason I'd buy one over the others is whilst it'll be boring, misses out on plenty of tech and have ancient engines and gearboxes it will last forever largely trouble free. Many of the others are time bombs waiting for the warranty period to end.

    • +1

10 Years warranty and 10 Years cap price service totalling $3k excluding wear and tear parts and its Japanese car so parts will be more affordable compared to European. Again for me its just the value it represents but Im curios to know the real life experience of people who drives them daily. No point of having something if you cant enjoy it.

      • Yeah I guess not. if I were in that market I wouldn't be buying it for fun I'd be buying it for the reasons you outline :)

      • +1

CVT and enjoyable drive aren’t compatible with each other

        • Anything with compromised ride height really.

  • I admit the new outlander looks good and with the bonus of 7 seats.

Although in this day and age i'd be forking out for a BYD Atto 3 if using around town each day.
If you're doing multiple regional runs then the Outlander would make sense, even then i'd get the plug in hybrid version

  • I was looking at getting one of these, but after extensive reviews and research decided against it - overall the feedback was: not as good as previous models - feels lacking - unexciting to drive.

But it is Japanese, so the reliability should be there (am still driving my '07 Mitsubishi Colt - 240,000k's and going strong)

    • " overall the feedback was: not as good as previous models"

The previous models weren't very good in the first place lol

Having said that, I know someone who for work has the new model and had the superceded model. He said the new one is a big improvement. Visually from outside it looks a lot more expensive.

  • Presumably you are getting the higher end model? Try test drive the car again. To me, this car drove like a 10 year old vehicle glamoured up with new techs.

If you are after the tech, then this car is quite good and the wait time isn't too bad (also consider the forthcoming Nissan x-Trail which is a very similar vehicle to the Outlander but the pricing and wait time might be different).

I ruled out this car pretty quickly and ended up getting a Subaru Outback.

    • Yes considering the Exceed which is 2nd from top. Will probably do another test drive this weekend.

Only if you get the hybrid (if it exists) Russia will be under sanctions for at least a decade. High energy prices guaranteed.

Not sure outlander fits the ‘Yay’ category. Doesn’t seem exciting. I wouldn’t rule it out either.

IMO Mitsu is in some ways like Toyota. Decent cars, just not exciting.

    • +1

Totally agree but then do ppl really buy for eg, a cx5 for excitement/fun? Seems misguided haha

  • Don't have any better recommendations but I wouldn't buy one just because of how ridiculously boring they look

Of course, if that doesn't bother you - I've found Mitsubishi to be quite reliable

    • +1

hahaha, I am looking at buying one for my wife soon.

I remember your Mitsubishi with the old "daytime running lights" that were "illegal" apparently.

      Oh the car memories!

      • +1

        Haha back when I was 18 😂
Never forget your 'undercover' police car hahaha.

I loved my 380 - it was great, never broke, and was hardly serviced haha….back when Mitsubishi used to make relatively interesting cars 😂

  • +1

Sounds like you’re already pretty set on this car and defensive of people’s opinions here so don’t really know what you’re expecting to get out of this exercise.

Oh and the reason you’re seeing so many on the road is a frequency illusion - it happens for any new car you’re interested in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_illusion

    • Im hoping someone here owns it and actually describe his experience driving it. But so far a lot of people voted avoid and there's not a single OzBargain members that owns it. It really is a Camry and Tesla forum here. I think for $55k the car is packed with all the high tech that you would get in a $70k car so there will be compromise on other areas of driving. I know Im paying for a mitsubishi not a Merc.

  • I drove one yesterday. Pretty smooth. Also modern and has all the bells and whistles. I quite like the styling.

For me, having the 2 extra seats is a winner to use in a pinch.

    • Thanks mate for describing your experience. Much appreciated

      • Best to test drive one and see. Everyone values different things. Don’t take advice from strangers on the internet - it’s your $$, circumstances and you’ll have to live with the car day in & out.

The reviewers say the engine feels underdone & ride quality is not there but I didn’t feel that was the case. Probably because i don’t know any better lol but personally felt it was enough for me.

The 10 yr warranty with capped servicing is a winner. I don’t think any competitor offers this. Services are also cheap compared to the rivals - $200ish compared to $350.

I also test drove a 2L rav4 but felt it was ‘rough’ in comparison.

        • +1

I think you’ve hit the key there. Test drive whatever the market alternative is. You can then decide for yourself a little more objectively.

I just went through this process to choose a new vehicle. Went and sat in all the competitors. Ruled out a few due to cabin space in the rear. test drove the remainder and ruled out another as I didn’t like the engine/gearbox combo nor the drivers position. That left 3 options and since I was buying used, the condition price and availability made the rest of the decision.

Still waiting for the new gen PHEV.

Personally, if I was shopping for a non-PHEV/hybrid, I'd avoid the petrol version, it's a Nissan powertrain in disguise. Nissan CVTs have had a chequered past. New gen PHEV will continue to run a Mits powertrain with a larger battery compared to the old gen PHEV.

  • @ozbaragan did you end up getting it? Tossing up the outlander and the Kia Sportage. What are your thoughts?

    • Yes, I did order the Black paint Exceed back in July 2022 but still no show yet. Dealer said when bought it eta was Jan 2023 then now pushed back to end of April. Does anyone order the exceed? Curious to know whats the waiting time….
