Good Guys 30 Days Price Gurantee

Hello Everyone,
Bought an Imac from the Good Guys Hoppers Crossing 2 weeks back at 10% off. Went in today to cash on 30 day price guarantee considering DSE had 15% off (difference of approx $70). Was turned down by the owner and manager saying they consider only werribee store as local competitor and Highpoint which had stock (17 Kms away) was not.But out of goodwill offered to refund 50% instead of 120% which I thought was total bullshit.
Considering lodging complaint with ACCC for false advertising.
Thoughts?????

  • yea complain..but they probably have fine prints that cover their arses

    • According to goodguys T&C:
      * Local competitor - A local bricks and mortar storefront, actively engaged in The Good Guys local retail market.

DSE still have it for free home delivery but that was not what I was arguing about it was the fact that Highpoint had it in stock and for the management that is not a local competitor.

I had a similar problem with TGG 30 day price guarantee a few months ago, when DSE had a GPS sale online and instore. I presented the manager the screenshot of DSE online page showing the price and they looked it up online, they claimed that that sale was online only, without further checking.
I sent an email to them with photographs of DSE advertised sale price as proof that sale was instore too, and the manager still denied it! Took a couple of emails and repetition to get them on the same page sigh.

In my opinion they will come up with whatever excuse to not give you the price you thought you would get.
    Do email TGG and complain!

  • Why bother spending money with companies like this anyway?

Thanks for your help guys, was able to sort it out. Got a refund for $75. YAY!!!!
My advice: Stay your ground(if you know you are right of course) and tell them you are happy to consider ACCC but don't be rude. If it still doesn't work out ask them if they could escalate and review the matter. Hopefully it will work out.

    • Good stuff, I'm sure these guys are more likely to help out someone who is calm and collected rather than someone who kicks and screams and claims they're gonna sue.

Harvey Norman tried to jerk me around when I returned a camera. The guy was being very agressive and carrying on. I finally said, okay, just give it back and I will go to the Dept of Fair Trading and say it is not fit for purpiose. those were magic words. It made him angry and he said that he was going to give the refund all along and I didn't have to threaten him. I said, why didn't you say that, instead of trying to blame me all along. He got disgusted and signed some slip and sent me to the register to do the reversal. I don't give a rip about these sales jockeys. Do what I want and what's fair. Don't care what you think of me. Sick of taking crap, therefore I will not.

  • There are so many rights protecting consumers in Australia. Calmly mentioning the ACCC makes most managers shit themselves and you almost always get your way (if you are reasonably correct ofcourse).

  • Ever try getting Bunnings to honour their price beat guarantee… ha ha what a laugh that is.
Best to do your research beforehand and go off armed with the best price and avoid all this screwing around.
They will always try to fob you off.

  • Well, I think that you deserve a fair explanation coming from the store manager and maybe, just maybe the company. But still, that is not a bad price cut, don't you agree? Anyways, just head on to their site www.thegoodguys.com.au for any comments or details regarding their products and services. I'm sure they'd be more than willing if you try to bring it to ACCC measures. Props.
