  • Toslink is digital, so you need an active converter/amp/soundcard to convert to analog.

However, many TVs have headphone or AUX output, so you can run HDMI to the TV then audio out to your speakers - which is what I do. If you only want audio and not video, you could also use the headphone jack on the controller to go directly to a portable speaker which also has the benefit of being wireless!

    • Thanks, the second option sounds good however my controller doesn't seem to have a headphone jack, is only a USB input, do most controllers have the headphone jack?

      • The old models didn't have jacks - but anything about 6 years and newer did. It's directly under the D-Pad, not the USB side.

If you were considering an adapter, perhaps putting that money towards a second/newer controller might be a better investment instead? I managed to get a couple on FB marketplace used for like $40 each.

  • I didn't have a TV back then and used to play with PC monitor, I got 3.5 mm audio out from the xbox one controller headphone jack.
