Plush Sofa's since Recent Acquisition by Nick Scali?

Has anybody had any bad/good experiences with Plush since the takeover (Oct 2021) by Nick Scali?

Have been looking at recliners at the 2 retailers and have heard some bad things about Nick Scali. Just wondering if one is as bad as the other now, or if Plush is a much safer option?

Thanks

Bought a couch from them in February, paid deposit on it and said it won't be delivered until July as an estimate. Recently emailed us saying that it has been delayed out to at least September. Had no idea that Nick Scali owned them at the time we purchased.

    • Thanks for sharing mate. Ouch, the usual lead time is long enough, so it hurts to get delayed further. Suppose as long as the couch is good when it arrives.

Yeh just heard about the acquisition recently. Hope it doesn't negatively impact them much.

We bought one in December 2021 and it was delivered in May 2022. The only difference we notices was that they don't take the packaging away with them anymore. There was enough to fill the wheelie bin.

    • Interesting. Happy with the products though? Sounds like you have bought from Plush previously also?

Yep, we've bought from them a couple of times and are still really happy.

We ordered early Feb and was originally told 10-14 weeks lead time, we now have a delivery date set for early next month. To their defense they did explain that the Shanghai lockdown had caused a significant delay to their operations.

Obviously can't comment on too much given we don't have the couch yet but I found it impossible to ozbargain the couch (so to speak). Before the buyout you used to be able to purchase Plush gift cards at about 7% discount but these are non-existent anymore. Furthermore they added a 1% surcharge to credit card purchases (you can ask to direct deposit which saves the fee but this isn't set up on their webpage they send you to to pay). I read past people saying they were able to get a lower price by negotiating in store, I tried two different stores and they wouldn't budge a cent. So it really seems since the Nick Scali purchase that they have given zero room to move on price.

Read the reviews for the plush shield and decide if it's right for you, the warranty isn't actually by Plush but by Guardsman and the reviews aren't great reading, we decided against the significant premium it.

    • Thanks for all the detail!

Yeah, there isn't many ways to save or get a good deal with these guys I've found. Plus there sales really are pretty much their normal price. Just found 2 couches we were looking at, are now cheaper after the "EOFY" sales, than they were during.

It really feels like they just play with customers.

Yeah for sure, they are one of those frustrating companies that run 24/7 sales and you are really saving something like 5% between a proper sale and their normal price. We bought at a 50% off sale, now I haven't seen them do a 50% off sale since all though they have done a 2 for the price of 1 sale. But just looking and our couch at 'full price' is actually $539 cheaper now than when we bought it but after the 50% sale it ends up $1046 more expensive after the sale prices are factored in.

Have also noticed that they have removed 2 policies they had at the time I bought from their website. They had a "love it or your money back guarantee", if you don't love your new couch then you had 3 days from the date of delivery to request a full refund and return of the couch or swap. And their "price promise", if you notice the price of your couch has decreased within 6 months of purchase date then they will refund the difference.

I really wish we didn't have to go through them, simply put they had a couch we loved and when we looked into reviews and experiences all these furniture companies seem to be the same, the people that have horror stories are enough to put you off every buying a sofa. Fingers crossed we have no issues with ours because once you do weed out all the paid for reviews it's quite clear Plush's after sales support is terrible.
