Cost to Replace Bumper and Front Guard on Lexus IS200?

Hey guys, my car needs some body work (dents and scratches) and I've already sourced some replacement panels. I was trying to get some insights into some rough cost estimates.

One smash repairer quoted $150 for each panel. It's only just taking the existing panel out and replacing it with another one so really just need labour. Is this a fair price?

Please let me know your thoughts. Based in Sydney car is 2003 Lexus IS200.

Cheers

Get 2 more quotes and you'll answer your own question.

  • Did you have an accident with no insurance?

    • nah cosmetic only, guard is dented in, and a small rust spot. the bumper is scratched. bought it like that and wanted to make it look better.

"It's only just taking the existing panel out and replacing it with another one so really just need labour."

wow, great job degrading people and their business.

if it's so easy, just do it yourself pal.

    • Agree.

    • kinda like a liver transplant

just cut him up, take it out, stuff the new one in and sew him up, how expensive can that be, just a few hours work. I've seen it on telly, well half of it, it got taped over

yes, it really is just labor and the expertise I need. I don't need them to source the parts nor did i say it was easy. would you let the smash repairer find the parts himself and make you pay over 2x what they paid for it? probably not. Not trying to degrade anyone but I haven't had the best experience with mechanics and such so I am a bit wary.

        Great, do it yourself.

Cost will be $100 to $150 per hour for labor for the small job.

Try air tasker as it will be allot cheaper, but may turn out to be more costly to fix the air tasker dings and scratches they put in the panels.

yeah nah air tasker would probably be a no go for this job. thanks for the input.

150 per panel sounds very cheap.. I'd say it would be a shit job.

If you're replacing with a new panel it will come in primer and need to be painted anyway. If you're replacing with a used panel from a wrecker it's going to be scratched all to hell and the paint will be faded a different amount to the rest of your car even if you're lucky enough to find one which is the 'same' colour. So you're going to need to get it painted anyway. But if you really wanted it cheap and nasty you would be throwing it on yourself.

I don't know. Years ago I was lucky enough to find a panel at a wreckers in the same color/condition as my car and after swapping it was completely unnoticeable. If it is a common car/color for the car you can get lucky.

      • this is basically my situation. Got the parts off someone parting out with the same model as my car so just need someone to replace the panels and gauging what might be a fair price.

  • Doesn’t sound like a terrible price

  • OP could be being penny wise, but pound foolish?
