How to extend laptop screen/not duplicate

Hi all I have a Toshiba L50 satellite laptop about 8-9 years old . Currently I have bought two Monitors(dell P2422H) and I am trying to extend my screens to work in a Citrix environment , however my laptop only have one hdmi port , where as monitors support(HDMI, vga , display port) . I can see my laptop does have a VGA small port but when I tried connecting my external monitor to the laptop via VGA the picture was really blurry nowhere near to the one connected to the HDMI one . Is their any work around that’s can be done to extend my monitors with good clarity without breaking an arm or leg . Any help from the techies will be greatly appreciated. Please note I am not trying to replicate same content on both the screens as such an HDMI Splitter won’t be suffice .

The display is blurry because your GPU is not outputting the correct resolution on your Dell monitor. Make sure your resolution is set to the native resolution of your panel (1080p)

You can adjust the display resolution (or set a custom one) via the control panel of your GPU driver. e.g Intel® Graphics Control Panel or Nvidia Control Panel.

Update driver if it's out of date and/or try a different VGA cable.

[and see here on how to extend your desktop to two different monitors

  • When you have the VGA attached, can you select the monitor in the Display settings menu and select the resolution? I did this before with an old monitor and it initially defaulted to a terrible resolution but I was able to select a higher resolution to the same 1080p resolution as the monitor.

    • I will give it a go

Make sure both screens have the same Display scaling setting (e.g. 100%)

It bugged me for a year until i realised it was due to my laptop on 125% scaling while my external monitor was on 100%

Edit: misread your extended citrix monitor is blurry on hdmi. It is blurry over VGA because your resolution and refresh rate bandwidth requirement is higher than the cable allows.
