Right? I dunno why people buy expensive cars when a cheapo would do…

          • @orbital: Silly rhetorical question. We know about cars.

            What is special about Rotring?
I was under the impression that they invented the rotating type mechanism, but apparently not.

Are you suggesting it is about showing off in the office? I really doubt anyone will be impressed by a $1000 ink-pen, let alone a $40 pencil.

@bargaino: Each to their own. I personally like writing with a quality pen/pencil (such as this one, made of metal, heavy and balanced) instead of an el-cheapo, plastic one. I don't think $40 is expensive for a Rotring unless you keep losing them (I have been using the same pencil for the last 25 years, so YMMV). I suggest you to read the reviews on the Amazon product page to see what people like about it.

Note: Uni makes the rotating lead pencils, not Rotring. You can buy one for $5: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/uni-kuru-t…

              • @bio: r/mechanicalpencils is also helpful

            • @bargaino: pretty sure rotring just means red ring in German. (their trademark "iconic" red ring).

              pencil is solid brass though..

  • Do they make these with a more tapered design?

Had a staedler mars micro that served me well over 7 years from high school through uni, looking at getting one of these but I'm not digging the squared off tip design. Feels like you've removed the cone tip off a pen and just started writing lol

    • perhaps the rapid pro?
