JB Price Match Restrictions with Harvey Norman - "Clearance" Tag on Full Priced Items

Ask for a JB Deal. Price Matches. Should be simple, right?

Tried to get a price match online but apparently, anything marked with a clearance tag, even at full price, cannot be price matched.

Example of an item in this category:
At HN, $129.

At JB, $129.95
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/belkin-boostup-charge-20k…

However, since it is under the clearance category (See LHS), it wont be considered for price matching via Live Chat.

Obviously I wasn't trying this product, but the $48 belkin charger for someone who needs it immediately. But, again, the guy from Live Chat decided that everything in that clearance category he wasn't going to give me a price match for.

Have they always been this tight? Its not even that big of a markdown.

PS: The $48 is also available at Officeworks, Amazon, but didn't bother as surely HN with instore stock and delivery stock would have been easiest to PM.

The price matching policies/conditions that I've seen all EXCLUDE clearance items.

    • The listing is 'tagged' clearance, but I dont think it actually is.

If I showed either of these links to you, would you be able to clearly say these are on clearance?

The listing is 'tagged' clearance, but I dont think it actually is.

If it's clearly tagged with "clearance" (regardless of whether it really is or not), then they have to right to refuse to match as per their conditions.

        • clearly tagged

Yeah thats the thing: it isnt clearly tagged. Half the online store is 'clearance' tagged on HN

e.g. Even these are tagged as clearance…

          • @ATangk: You said they're tagged as 'clearance'.. ?

            • @bobbified: Did you click the link? It doesn't have any indication of clearance, but if you use the search function, half the store appears when the clearance tag is checked.

              • @ATangk:

It doesn't have any indication of clearance

Yeh, I can't see where it says clearance in your links. Why don't you send them the direct link? Or if you want it that badly, go to a store and show them that page on your phone.

@bobbified: I sent them a direct link, just a bit appalled at the live reps attitude. Its not even his money… Sour taste in mouth.

@ATangk: Do it again on the Online Chat and you might get someone else who's less by-the-book..haha

  • Go in store is easier to PM than chat.

  • Why not just go to the two stores you mentioned that have the better price…

    • Ended up sending the friend to get it directly from HN (They have an early morning flight, so no go on Amazon and OW is OOS locally). TBH I just wanted to give them my perks voucher, but JB didn't want my money.

JB price match is shit. Really depends on who you get, and if it is actually a good deal they'll likely say no.

Last week I was knocked back for a price match by the manager because they swore Bing Lee sold grey stock of an item, despite being listed on the manufacturers Australian website as an authorised seller.

  • I agree that it can vary who you get on the phone.

Just today I got them to price match the Samsung trio 500 keyboard from Bing lee. Bing lee had it for 29 and JB for 69. The guy took his time but sent me an SMS link to do an online order. I further applied the $10 perks voucher and got it for $19.
