Is It Good Idea Buying PC Now before New Generation Shows up? (2-3 months left)

when NEW CPU and GPU released their price is more expensive than after 3 months and the M/B is expensive too.

Isn't it good idea buying PC now when it has a big discount?

This can also avoid the unknown issues for new gen products like unknown bluescreen issue.

What's your thoughts?

Is it still too bad in price-performance ratio?

Wait 15 months for the next next gen.

Do you want to use the PC now? Buy now.

Can you wait for prices to drop? Wait.

Do you want to have the latest CPU/GPU? Wait.

I have PC now but want to upgrade and I want it to be highest spec I can have in my budget.

So no need to rush but if I need to wait more than 5 months I wouldn't

      • What's your budget, what are you trying to do and how long do you want it to last for?

New releases will be staggered, the top of the range stuff with a huge premium will come first, if your budget is less than $2k then you might not be able to afford a new system. All the vendors were still releasing new parts throughout this year that will fill the gap of lower/mid tier parts so it'll be the same parts but maybe a little cheaper.

But mostly, it's a crystal ball. There are rumours from huge releases in Sept to AMD only being able to get 50k GPUs out the door this year (with their fastest GPU coming next year). No idea on what DDR5 pricing will be like, no idea on what next gen GPUs will actually cost, no idea whether there'll be enough stock that you'll be able to even buy one without camping out online and pulling the trigger on any stock that shows up.

It’s like trading shares. If you only buy them when they are low and sell them when they are high, you too can be Warren Buffett.
You just buy the pc when the highest spec is cheapest, not when the lower spec is too expensive. Simple

        • And if the highest spec is too expensive, but the lower spec is not cheaper, within 5 months, just buy or not depending.

If you return to this post in December you can tell us.

  • To avoid paying the max price premium, this typically goes with any device:

Latest Gen minus 1 or 2 gen.

    • The impression I've gotten is that current 12th gen intel chips are pretty good value for money, and going back a few gens wouldn't necessarily be a great value for money move. A 12th gen motherboard will even allow you to upgrade to a 13th gen CPU down the line if you want, or potentially reused on a DDR5 motherboard without replacing the CPU down the line.

    As TISM sang

"But you know what they always say,
    There's always a better one,"

  • Everything has been so crazy the last few years that it's hard to use the past to guess the future.

However it does seem after years of shortages there's now going to be a massive oversupply of PC parts, with Nvidia reportedly trying to cancel a large part of their ordered components, and crypto miners selling their hardware for cheap putting less demand on new parts as well. So I'm personally banking on prices falling in the next few months before buying a video card, but you can get a good 12th gen intel CPU right now for cheap.
