Indian VPN Servers Gone - Party's over

Part PSA and part commiserating, but I've just learned most VPN providers have shut down their India-based VPN servers.

"A new mandate issued by CERT-In (an IT security organization established by the Indian Government) requires that VPN providers collect certain customer data.

Since TunnelBear will not collect or log this data, we have made the decision to remove our India servers from our VPN network."

Surfshark, NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Torguard also appear to have shut their India-based servers down.

  • It sounds like the privacy VPNs are gone, not all VPNs?

    • Would you want to use a non private VPN?

      • +17

        That's just a VN.

      • To access cheap youtube, etc?

        • didn't a load of accounts get banned for doing that recently? why not just use ublock origin? they don't ban for using adblockers.

  • Windscribe still shows 2 servers available.

  • According to ExpressVPN, you can still get a virtual Indian IP address. Just that those servers are not located in India nor will they log your data.

    • That's great, hopefully others follow suit!
