Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2022 prices revealed - what's your take?

Pricing has just been released, I was considering, but given the large increase compared to the current model, I think I'll be looking at alternatives.

Do you think they've priced themselves out of the market? Especially given competitors like BYD coming in with their EV offering.

Edit pricing - (Thanks SBOB)

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV ES 5 seat: $54,590
2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV Aspire 5 seat: $60,990
2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV Exceed 5+2 seat: $65,990
2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV Exceed Tourer 5+2 seat: $68,490
All prices exclude on-road costs.

Another moderately expensive SUV. It's not as though BYD are actually cheap.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2022 prices revealed - what's your take?

Have to really see the price range vs features etc to fully understand, ie the battery ihas been increased so the EV range is now longer on the new model….. but as someone who lives in VIC, a PHEV comes with a road usage tax, so might as well go all the way to a full EV. Which is what I'll be doing.

What are the prices? Has it come into the Rav 4 or Kluger territory?

  • +4

You should list the prices of Mitsubishi's PHEV, and the prices of its competition.

It’s a very irrelevant post without the actual pricing or comparison

Too lazy to actually include some detail in your post?

dunno, what alternative similarly sized SUV PHEV are you comparing to? The Sorrento would be a class size up and also more expensive for example

    • Thought I linked that exact article in my post, my mistake!

  • What are the pros of a PHEV compared to a hybrid that doesnt need to be plugged in?

    • +1

This one has a battery so you can charge it at home and run a portion (all, if short) of your trip with that. The other type of hybrid uses fuel to make electricity to run the car

    • +1

PHEV can charge its battery from power outlets, and Outlander PHEV 2022 comes with 20kWh battery with estimated range up to 84km. That means if you are driving less than that in a day, and always charging at home at night, you might not even need to fuel up with petrol.

      • +2

might not even need to fuel up with petrol

Incorrect, you still have to eventually as it still uses the petrol in some way to make sure it's just not sitting in your tank forever.

        • And Mits has programmed the software to act accordingly and run the ICE occasionally if all driving is generally EV only.

    • Be aware that some states are/will be charging per km taxation on EV's and plug-in hybrids. So you will be paying tax at the petrol bowser and tax per km as well.

  • First time Outlander PHEV offering 5+2? I think the previous gen PHEV is 5-seats only.

    • Correct.

    • Okay, who downvoted Scotty for this?

Mitsubishi thinking people will pay these prices are kidding themselves, they're a budget brand at best.

BYD's Atto 3 still trumps this.

Even with Hybrids having 80k's of range Mitsubishi doesn't have the unique market cornered anymore.

    It'll be a tough sell.

I do like the look of them oddly though.

  • Yeesh, you'd have to really do the sums. These often get compared to the RAV4, and a Cruiser Hybrid AWD is currently $48,750 + ORC, though about to go up to around $51k + ORC. That's top of the range pricing, and still around $3,500 cheaper than the base model Outlander

Agreed, although wait times will be a lot shorter!

      • Already 18 month wait times.

  • If it’s overpriced, the market will let them know (by not buying) and they’ll cut the prices to get sales. Maybe they are moving to the model of giving a big discount to make you think you are getting a bargain.

Alternatively, other manufacturers may take note and up their prices to meet Mitsi.

Manufacturers can set whatever price they like and the market will either pay it, if the market won’t pay and the volumes aren’t high enough the RRP will come down (with sale prices initially).

    • The exact opposite will occur, prices will rise in this climate.(fact)Your dreaming if you think they will come down.

      • It’s in the hands of the manufacturers. While ever we are paying high prices they’ll keep them high. Demand is high right now of course prices are going up.

If interest rate rises or other factors mean new car sales drop then a price correction will occur. They’ll either save costs and pass it on, or cut into profits.

We’ve come out of a long period of good supply exceeding demand and discounting etc being the norm. We are currently in a poor supply high demand cycle that’s going to change with supply slowly coming back online and demand potentially dropping with interest rare rises and less pandemic impact on things like holiday travel.

        • I would tend to agree with Euphemisitc.

Mitsu isnt what I would call a tier 1 manfacturer. They're releasing a fair niche product that isnt fish nor fowl… I'm not saying its a bad car but the old one wasnt a big seller and with this more expensive model I think this one will continue the trend of being a footnote in history. I get this one has more capablity. Ok.

Also since they're a Nissan company now ask yourself the future of this thing… I think either go full EV or go with a cheap ICE SUV. Nissan will be wondering what they are doing with this when they could just rebadge a Pathfinder lol.

I get that this car works for some people, probably dozens of them.

I think the market will decide on this and it wont be pretty. And I doubt prices on these will go up given demand on these will always be slack.

Also enjoy the Labor state govts. EV road tax.
