DoorDash Glitch Now Makes Auto Payment Discussion

I'm hearing about Doordash charging people for glitch in their app.

https://www.reddit.com/r/dankmemes/comments/vw1v8a/rip_those…

So TLDR
People were able to get free food due to a glitch in the app. doordash has rectified the glitch but are now charging people.

Should DD charge for their mistake ?

Mod: For context

A temporary glitch allowed DoorDash customers to place orders without being charged. According to Mashable, “the glitch was caused by a payment processing issue that allowed users to check out without an authorized form of payment.” This exploit allowed users to order large amounts of food without paying

DoorDash is a pos service. Especially the CEO and that tipping scandal a few years back.

If you make an order, get the food that you ordered and they didn't charge straightaway because of a glitch, why is it wrong for them to charge when they fix the problem?

    • No problem here, play on. They can afford the f-up, they are valued at $72 billion.

Not the first time they have done this.

It's like you get an item in store with a price error, take it home and then you get chased by debt collectors the next week. That's their problem to deal with not yours. I would be doing a chargeback if it happened to me.

If your work direct credits your regular salary to your bank account, but there's a glitch and it doesn't do through the first time, would you expect that your work will try the transfer again the next day or do you expect your work to keep your salary payment?

That's different though, it wasn't a glitch per say as someone from the previous HJ deal probably did 100% off instead of 30%. Please refer to what freefall101 stated.

That's totally different, I have a contract saying that my work will pay me $x. It's not like the glitch means the money totally disappears, nor did I ever go to my work "hey, you can pay me $0 this week".

If I go on doordash, put in a coupon code and it tells me my total cost is $0, how am I meant to know that it's not a valid promotion? Can Uber turn around and charge for those new customer promotions giving free food/rides saying "whoops, it was a mistake".

            @freefall101:

If I go on doordash, put in a coupon code and it tells me my total cost is $0,

okay, this makes much more sense! I don't normally use doordash etc much and reddit just had a big bugs bunny gif! It sounded like people were ordering and noticing that their accounts weren't being charged. If the actual price displayed as $0.00, then yeh, they can get stuffed! lol

Did you actually check out the videos/screenshots? It never said $0. People saw the amount and invoices, they were just not getting charged as they normally would and banked on not actually being charged.

Tbh I think some still got away scot-free by using a prepaid card.

I'm shocked anyone on OzBargain is ticking "yes", they're doing this in the US but there's no way they'd get away with it here. The ACCC would have their guts for garters.

I've gotten super cheap food off doordash, it presented the price, I accepted it, they sent me the goods. They could have cancelled the order if they wanted to but they can't decide they got ripped off and charge me more for it later.

If I bought something incorrectly priced at the supermarket they can't come knock on my door a week later and ask for more money.

The general consensus on OzBargain is to go against the OP on forums. Do you not know that? 😂

      • +2

I thought that only was only because SlavOz posted so many things

      • It would be nice if ozbargain could suddenly reveal who voted for what.
There should be transparency. I don't even know why we need to hide who is downvoting as well.
Maybe when we get Web 3.0 things might change.

        • maybe we should also have transparent voting in Government elections so then we'll know who to blame for the Government as it appears within about 3 months of an election 70% of people deny voting for the winners

          • @iand: The "I am unsure" voters who clearly know who they are voting for but without the judgement for saying who they vote for!

            Did that make sense 😂?

    • Also i think the inability to revoke on this poll might make up for it.

Don't be too shocked, cause I don't think you understand how the glitch worked. Case in point:

If I bought something incorrectly priced at the supermarket they can't come knock on my door a week later and ask for more money.

That's not the same as what happened with DoorDash. It's not about honouring advertised pricing, it's about not being charged when you go to check out.

You've assumed the Doordash app was showing a $0 total at checkout, but that's not the case (if it was, I'd agree with you). It was showing the actual price (say, $50), but the glitch allowed you to check out without actually being charged the $50.

      Here, I've fixed your example:

If I bought grabbed something incorrectly priced at the supermarket and managed to walk out without paying they can't come knock on my door a week later and ask for more money.

Thanks for the reminder. I just deleted all payment methods from my DoorDash account where I ordered free large HJ meal XD

this actually happened in Australia earlier this year and worked for a week or two
DD likely absorbed the costs as they didn't end up charging the orders that went through with the glitch
