Macbook Air

Hi,

I'm looking at buying a new Macbook air for my old man. Anyone knows if Apple will refresh the Macbook Air line anytime soon? Is there any merit to hold off buying a new one now? Ta

  • don't buy yet, new one meant to be announced in next couple of months

  • Car-la-la gives some good advice, some discussion here, you can then draw your own conclusions

Macbook Air: "Recommendation - Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle."

Also not that the Macbook Pros are due for an update very very soon, and among the new features it is said to be smaller and lighter than previous Pros; still bigger than an Air, but may be small enough to convert some Air users to a faster model!

  • cheers for the input guys, really appreciate it. I'll give the old man my current Mac Air and wait till the new ones come out :)

  • how much you willing to spend? coz im selling my macbook air 11" (got it last Mar/12, unwanted gift as i already have a PRO).

  • Hi, I bought the larger Air last year and I have to admit I love it. Even though I have an ipad, I don't see the point as my Air is so light and easy to carry around, and fast to type on and navigate!

The solid state harddrive is ingenious and I expect all laptops to go this way over the next 12 months. It makes it amazingly fast to use compared to a normal hard drive.

With that said, here are some things I don't like about the Air:
    - As a primary machine I would really like a larger screen. It's tricky as it would make it bulkier, but I think the ideal size for regular usage is 15inch screen. 13inch is a little too small for hours long usage
    - The battery runs out faily quickly. It does last around 4 hours with the brightness up and videos playing buy it means if you'd using it for extended hours you will be plugged in for a major proportion which defies the point of a laptop
    - The ports are a little limited but that hasn't been an issue. There's enough USB ports and you can get external everything these days.

So def wait to see what the next AIR model is like before buying… then you could pickup the older model cheaper if you decide it's good enough for what you need. 2 months is nothing :)

Oh… and seriously consider buyig overseas. I believe you can save 30%-40% buying overseas.

    cheers
