FreeCycle.org - Good for Environment

Moved to Forum: Original Link

What is the best bargain? A free one!!
I havent seen anyone posted this, thought I might share with you.
This is the FreeCycle, where people offer free items.
Please go to the website for detailed terms and conditions. No sale, no money change hand.
It is a great way to save the environment.

I must state here that for OzBer, please do collect when you say you would.
You'd be surprised with the number of people who fail to turn up.
Just because it's free doesnt mean that you dont have to respect others.

Happy recycling.

Probably not a deal so much as a topic for the forums?

  • It's well old, i used it a few times years ago when i first moved out.

Everything goes in less than a second.

I reckon gumtree is better, not free, but you can find awesome deals.

    • Is it still alive? I thought eBay killed it.

      • No it is still very active
        Depending on the city.
Here in Qld, Brisbane is very active.
        But Gold Coast is not.

    • I did see freebies on Gumtree but never tried it.
My personal experience with FreeCycle is very good, overall.
Had a brand new leather tool belt for hubby, baby swing, baby high chair, gardening stuff.
Had also given away heaps of stuff.
      Talked to interesting like-minded people.

  • And with freecycle you have to put up with all the pleas from the professional hoarders.

Like those who regularly start with

"I know its a big ask……" and then proceed to ask if anyone has any unused motor boats with trailer etc

    • Hahaha, it's usually not that extreme but there are a few who do ask for a lot. Good for a laugh.

I've seen some interesting requests though, like one who wanted germanium transistors for a guitar amp (authentic sound apparently). I thought I had some so replied, but after looking in the junk box remembered that I had given them away back in the 90s. 15 years too late.

    • Yes funny.

      • Minor annoyances aside, it is a good way to share things and save tipping fees with benefit of keeping landfills from filling up.

And agree being considerate to those if circumstances change is always good karma.

  • There was one on the local group who not only wanted the free car they were asking for to be registered, but were also specific as to what model they wanted.

    • Over the years I am trained to sniff these people out.

  • You should see this brand new Ferrari F40 I got…I drive it every night in my dreams!

I like the idea, but I usually have nothing to give away. The only thing I gave away was an old model DSLR that I couldnt sell for nuts. so I gave it away. She was quite grateful. for a good cause.
