    I do not think the Nikon D500, already a niche camera, sold well.

    There were a lot of used examples soon after launch and in a photography group I used to attend the high noise, reliability issues, close pricing to the larger sensor and sports capable D7xx series, undercut from the cheaper D7xxx series, higher competition from other manufacturers and late release stopped it from having the same success as say the D300s which was unique for features/quality/cost when released.
