  • I got the exact same one. I think it's best to try it first as it may not be suitable for those with bigger ears. Sound quality wise is really good and tuned more towards a V shape settings. I really like mine.

I got these and replaced the pads with thicker ones that work great, without them these headphones hurt my ears. I can't find the ones I ordered, but they were more than twice as thick as the ones that came with them, were memory foam, white, and the coating is cracking all these years later.

      • These are the pads I replaced mine with (https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B00MFDT894/ref=ppx_od_d…), mainly because they were deteriorating but they are a lot more comfy than original.

My M50x are going on about 5 years now.

        • A lot of people suggest the thicker more comfortable brainwavz pads change the sound of the headphones and make them more tinny. I've had the m50x for a long time now and my pads have gone so bad, I wanted to replace them with these but the reviews stopped me for now.

        • Oh thank you so much!!! I will check them out. If I use my too long it does hurt my head a bit but not too bad. So this will help. Thank you

      • Thicker airpads shift your ears further away from the speakers. Ie. More comfy but less fullness/bass. Ie more tinny. It's a trade-off. Most of the third party pads are thick. You need to find the same thickness for same sound. Ie the originals.

    • Yaxi pads are a great upgrade. I have them on my M40Xs, which entirely subjectively, I prefer over the M50X. Cheaper and betterer!

  • There's a bluetooth version of these that you can still connect a cable to, $95 more though https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/audio-technica-ath-m50xbt…

  • The old ATH-M50 clamped my head too much and made me end up with tension headache after each use. Not sure if these are the same. They sound great for the price though.

    • They're easy enough to stretch out, not that I ever had an issue with mine when I used them, even on international flights they were comfortable

      • I waited for more than 6 months for my ATH-M50 to stretch but they only stretched a bit. I gave up and only use them for short YouTube videos.

        • Flex the band straight, so the ear cups are at each end of a straight band like this:
          )-===-(
… for thirty seconds before you put them on.

After a few days they’ll be way more comfortable. This worked for my pair and they were great until the office got burgled and now some thief (or pawn shop customer) is enjoying my modified gentle clamping M50s

Dont bother with this please. Bloated bass and the midrange sounds underwater. Please go for the k371

  • I'm surprised these still sell so well, I remember getting a pair of M50x from Sounds Easy for $150 in 2016 with a hard case too.

I'm not an audiophile but if you want to watch some fantastically entertaining videos on headphones from someone who is, look up "DankPods" on YouTube.

To me, these headphones actually sound quite similar to the grado sr60x which I recently got for my brother for $130, worth checking out but also very different design headphones.

Edit: There's a lot of argument out there that you can get much better headphones around this price point and that the m50x are generally pretty overhyped. Don't shoot the messenger, DYOR, also these aren't comfortable IMO but I've had them for 6 years so you get used to them.

I really do not like the sound of these. I honestly don’t understand the fuss.

    Boomy bass, awful treble.

  • Finally back to 2016 prices lol!

  • I have both and don't feel these are better than sony mdr 7506, which I mostly used at home. However I bring m50x when I go out because the coil cord of 7506 is annoying.

  • Where did you get you 7506's from & price?

Keen to get a pair for using with my Fender mustang micro.

I currently have a pair of B&W P3's but they hurt my ears after a while.

    • Got them on Amazon UK for $129
