  • Bargain. I have the IO9. I would definitely go for this if I wouldn’t had an IO already!

    • How does it compare to the cheaper Genius and Smart series?

I want to get it but cannot justify the price.

  • +2

It's $219 at Shaver Shop for comparison FYI, which is the non lightning deal price at Amazon.

Just did a quick search and although this is a bargain, I only saw Woolworths selling it at the RRP.

    Shavershop selling it for $219

RRP's can be BS, but $200 for a toothbrush is a bargain??? Never, ever.

Think I can happily live my life without personalised brushing modes and all the other marketing ejaculate.

I hear you, however use my anecdotal evidence as food for thought.

I had a cheap electric toothbrush and used it daily. Turns out I had some major gum problems and was diagnosed as potentially lose all my teeth. 4 visits to a peridonist and a new oral b genius 8000, and I'm happy to say all my gums have recovered well and my teeth are here to stay!

Was the toothbrush a significant contributing factor? No-one will ever know for sure, as I sure as shit never used any other feature but "fastest" and never used the Bluetooth options. I do however have my teeth and my gums are no longer receeding

        TLDR:
4 visits to a professional fixed his teeth not the fancy toothbrush

        • +4

          Actually, no.

Some people have ‘bad’ gums (periodontal disease). It can be caused due to many reasons, one of which being genetics.

Massaging the gums ensures adequate blood flow, to keep them healthy. Also, people with periodontal disease/issues are EXTREMELY sensitive to plaque around the gum line. This can cause gum recession and can cause people to lose teeth.

It’s just like how some people have bad backs or knees. They might spend a lot on physios. I have never seen a physio myself, but I wouldn’t deride someone who needed to on a regular basis. Nor would I for someone who spends money on insulin, because they’re diabetic.

These toothbrushes are worth the money for those that need them. No one cares if you don’t need it.

What is it with this site and ignorant tightarses always turning up their nose at people who spend money on things they actually need? It’s getting tiring seeing comments like this all the time.

          • +4

@wormarts: Exactly this. It's the same thing as going to the physio. If you don't do the exercises at home your more than likely going to find yourself back there.

Since I feel I need to clarify a little, my gum problems were a result of braces in high school that started to move my gums away from my teeth, which allowed plaque etc to form in between tooth and gum, causing irritation and gums to pull away further… Repeat for 18ish years until you have a massive problem.

Dentist told me to get a Genius 8000 toothbrush and see a peridonist 6 times. I was advised no longer needed peridontics after 4.

As I said earlier, it's anecdotal, but simply saying "professional fixed my teeth" is a gross simplification which erroneously disregards the work I did in between sessions.

I don't know why this has triggered me so much, but yeah I am a little annoyed at the random throw away comment and yes I am disappointed in myself because I "should" know better than letting it get to me.

Thanks for reading my TED talk

iO6 is not that great as it’s still slow charging.
iO7 and above is better. I was waiting for the 14% cashback while iO7 was on sale for $239 but it got sold out :(

    • Now I see iO7 is back again on $239

BS RRP. It's been around 220 to 250 for most of the last couple of years- https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B09JVYFF2V

  • How this compare to pro 2000? I bought it in the last deal for $59.

  • How does it guide "you to better brushing every day"? Does it talk to you?

  • Is this a Lithium battery one?
I have had a basic model (WWS, $30 when 1/2) years ago. Charging can last 2-3 days now and quite a lot black stuffs stick at the bottom of the toothbrush.

    • Yep, end of life for an electric toothbrush is when you can't stand the amount of black stuff (mould) that's accumulated. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the rubber material used is intentionally susceptible to mould to design in obsolesce. Recommend cleaning and drying thoroughly after each use.
