Historical low for the PS5 version as per the Camels. Has also recently been updated with a bunch of graphical improvements as well as a newly added balanced graphical mode @ 40 FPS (similar to R&C Rift Apart).

Great game and definitely worth a play for all the new owners of PS5 with the number of sold-out console deals I keep seeing. Would strongly recommend you play the first game + Frozen Wilds DLC beforehand though. There's a good chance you may already have it one way or another, as it was a free game on PS+ a while back and is also currently part of the catalogue in PS+ Extra.

Great game got the ps4 version with the free upgrade for PS5 then gave it to a mate to borrow on his PS pro now I want it back with all these awesome updates they're doing lately, desperately needs DLC or more map areas as the game finishes pretty quick

    • as the game finishes pretty quick

huh? did you only play main game or sth on lowest difficulty? It took me over 250+ hrs or something for 100% completion. Took my time exploring alot in the world etc.

      • +2

250?! the games on the short side. main story is lacking a bit and overall map doesnt have the same sense of expansiveness as the first. got 100% on very hard in barely over 100hrs, but i also wasted excessive amounts of time taking in the scenery, or being idle. i would bet money most people get it even quicker than that… even with a decent DLC i feel like the game would barely be pushing over the base zero dawn level of content. it almost needs 2 DLC's… certainly something bigger than the frozen wilds, which was a solid DLC.

I personally did not enjoy this game. I thought the first one was pretty good, but I just found a lot of it to be lack-luster. It kind of felt like a PS-exclusive version of assassin's creed. Like, don't get me wrong, the game does a lot well. But it also does a lot not-so-well.

For example, the characters lacked a lot of personality. It was clear that they got a bunch of actors to read out lines without truly understanding what was going on. A bit like with Skyrim/Fallout. I would have expected better for a AAA title. Don't get me started on travelling or trying to climb things. It's like, if you accidentally fall down, which you will, there's no way to get back up other than to go through the entire thing again. The fact that you can't just fast travel to points you've visited previously, without visiting a campsite, is just plain dumb.

I think the main thing is that the story of the first game was so good because of the whole unknown element of it. We were basically learning about what happened to the past world at the same time as the character.

Obviously, in the sequel they can't use that aspect anymore, so in comparison, I'd agree the story may be slightly below the first game, but I definitely felt the gameplay was significantly better than the first.

Also, you can fast-travel without going to a campsite using a fairly cheap consumable item. I ended up having so many of them by the time I finished the game because I didn't really feel a need to use them since it was quite easy to just travel to a campsite.

    • +3

You can fast travel with fast travel pack. Its cheap to buy.

    • Completely agree, FW was missing that spark and magic from part 1. I guess not every sequel can always topple the original for everyone.

Also the grind aspect to attain epic/legendary weapons and armour was just extreme, put me off spending all that time getting the necessary parts to then get to use the weapons at all. The different ammo types were spread it seemed almost randomly across different weapon types, I don't mind the change but it felt more expansive and messy than was necessary. Not to mention the grind for each machine you had to complete even after you completed the relative cauldrons. Permanent overrides was no longer an attainable upgrade too.

    • I agree. I thought the story was terrible with a poorly thought-out plot and a number of super lame villains. Plus the other main characters just seemed like an afterthought without really delving into any of them in depth. I came off The Last of Us and the difference in storytelling between games is like night and day.

However, I enjoyed the combat and graphics were cool. It's the sort of game I'd be ok with if I got it on special.

100 hrs in and still enjoying it. Such a great game.

I had kept it on hold because of the visual issues in performance mode but after the recent fix, its looking great.

  • Oh, no, bought ps4 version for $85 the day before yesterday, and will deliver soon, what should I do?

    • Return it and order this.

  • Does it mean PS5 version only runs at 40fps?

    • The balanced mode, it also has a performance mode which runs at 60 fps and with VRR can go above 60

    • it's a new graphics mode in the middle of fidelity (better graphics, native 4k) at 30fps, and speed (lower graphics, 1080? I can't remember) at 60fps.
the new 40 fps trades off some of the graphics fidelity for faster FPS

      • +1

Wow, 4K mode at only 30fps. I wonder why so many people demanding a new TV with HDMI capable for displaying 4K at 120Hz, when their games can't even achieve 60fps? Pathetic XD

        • +3

They did not realize the inability of PS5 for 4k120 until they actually own one. I am one of the pathetic ones

          • +1

@lrq663611: Oh it's fine to own a PS5. Just don't demand a TV with 4K/120Hz display when 4K/60Hz is more than enough.

            • -1

@edfoo: That's a pretty dumb thing to say for the people buying high end tvs why shouldn't it have 4k/120hz standard.. ?? PC gaming can do it and for also future proofing yourself for the next range of consoles and devices etc

              • -2

@solidussnake: What is so dumb? I did mention PS5, not PC gaming or future gaming consoles.

        • +1

40fps mode relies on having a 120hz display as it's not achievable on a 60hz display with consistent frame timing. There's a pretty good writeup explaining how it works on Eurogamer. They also note that it affects input lag and general game responsiveness which can be a pretty big deal to some people.

Gran turismo on the ps5 is also $79

A true ozbargainer will just wait for these games to PS+ Extra…

I barely managed to sell my sealed Horizon Forbidden West on Facebook for $60. I believe one can easily find them at the $50-60 mark brand new on FB by talking to the sellers. Many bought the game in a bundle for the console but did not want the game.

    • Marketplace is gonna be flooded with this games digital codes for sale.

Just popped in to say that this game is definitely worth the price of admission. It's fantastic. I love it. Think you'll love it too.

  • I had to choose between Horizon Forbidden West or Eldein RIng and a quick google search made me get Elden Ring. This game better than Elden Ring? I've completed Zero Dawn but never played Dark Souls prior to ELDEN RING

    • They're vastly different.

You've completed Horizon Zero Dawn, so did you like it? If so, then you should like this.

You don't need to play Dark Souls prior to Elden Ring, but they are similar in gameplay.

    • +1

you made the right choice, also the vast majority of people chose elden ring. even majority of those that got HFW on launch, put it down as soon as elden ring launched and didnt revisit it for months. the games good, and definitely worth playing but plenty of time, especially if you dont get sucked into trying the previous demonssouls/dark souls.. next-gen AAA titles aren't exactly flooding in yet. only gonna get cheaper too.

  • Absolutely love this series to death, Guerrilla Games just nail the atmosphere and vibe everytime. Rotten luck with their launch window coinciding with Elden Ring, basically took all the attention away after just the first week of release.
