Several DLCs for older Dragon Age and Mass Effect games that could previously only be bought with 'BioWare Points' - which came in packs of 800 that you had to purchase with real currency - have now been made available for download FREE of charge (except for Mass Effect 3's Multiplayer Packs) on the EA (Origin) storefront:

  • IMPORTANT: this works ONLY if these (base / standard edition) games are already present in your EA (Origin) account's game library.
  • You can log into Origin and grab DLC for Dragon Age: Origins (DLC list), Dragon Age II (DLC list), Mass Effect 2 (DLC list), and Mass Effect 3 (DLC list) by selecting the game(s) in your library, clicking on 'Extra Content', then selecting 'Get it Free' for each one.
  • If you have these games installed via Steam (or retail game disc), see details further below.

If you installed your game through EA Desktop or Origin, you should always update your game and download your extra content there, too.

Using the links in this article with a game installed through EA Desktop or Origin can cause conflicts. If you do that, you may have to reinstall your game and your DLC.

We’re reaching out to let you know that starting October 11, 2022, BioWare Points will no longer be available as a form of currency in the Origin store. Other currencies like Crystals and Platinum in other BioWare titles remain unaffected.

To support you through this change, most DLC (downloadable content) that was previously only purchasable with BioWare Points are now available free of charge. This includes DLC for the following titles:

  • Dragon Age II
  • Dragon Age: Origins
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Mass Effect 3 (except Multiplayer Packs)

For the next 90 days, you can use your BioWare Points to purchase Multiplayer Packs for Mass Effect 3. After October 11, 2022, Multiplayer Packs will only be redeemable using Credits you’ve earned in-game.

Don’t worry — you’ll still have access to any content previously purchased using BioWare Points.

For those who claimed the Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Prime a few days ago, the DLC is already included.

Does that mean it's not actually free?

You need to have the base game, you get the DLC for free

Seeing an error for dragon age origins DLCs.

"There was an error displaying the price for this item. Please check back later"

    • +4

Yep. I'm seeing that on dozens of items for the 3 games I have

Update: It's happening in the client app, but not when I log in through a web browser

Update 2: I was able to get everything for DA:O, DAII, and ME2 using a web browser except the "Mass Effect 2 Soundtrack", which still shows the "There was an error…" message even in the browser.

  • You could already do this for all the dragon age games dlc and has been that way for quite some time via dragon age keep https://dragonagekeep.com

  • I assume there's no way to get these dlc licenses transferred to the Xbox?

  • I'm so confused. I have EA installed (through gamepass) and can't find origin. Are EA and Origin the same or do I need to install them both?

    • +2

Different for now - EA hasn't completed their 'migration'. Even though you may own the games on your account, some games may not appear on EA just yet. eg. ME Legendary I have to play using Origin client.

FYI: If you have Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition all the DLCs are already included.

  • Don't seem to be able to get any of the ME3 DLC
