False description, I've never had great tasting fries out of an air fryer.

      Human error i'm guessing?

Nope, air fryers just make everything dry, chips should be bathing in oil.

      • Yep

I have this airfyer and really like it. Great gateway into world of airfyers.

    Pros:
    - Ideal size fits 1-2 person household
    - Dead easy to use
    - Attractive with small footprint, can easily leave out in counter - not true of most airfyers
    - Easy to wash completely removable basket
    - Fantastic price

    Cons:
    - Not digital so can't be precise on times & temps
    - Max temp 200° which sometimes doesn't feel hot enough

    • New to the airfryer world. Got the same one this week from the Amazon Prime deal. So far I have only used it once for some frozen pre-fried chips and wings. The food came out to be very different from what I expected as it did not seem to be "fried" at all. I did't see any difference between chips cooked by an airfryer and an oven on this occasion. Is this how an airfryer supposed to be? What is your experience?

      • Yes - imho air fryers are much the same as mini fan forced ovens. instead of having to preheat your entire under cooktop oven, which is expensive, air fryers give the same result much quicker and with lesser energy consumption, downside: you have to do it in smaller batches depending on the size of the Airfryer.
        Happy to be proven wrong.

        • "mini fan forced oven" - yes, this, what @dealking said.

I didn't actually like mine at all when I first got it, was considering returning. My tips:

—Use oil - name "airfyer" is misleading. Use oil liberally. (not one from a spray can, that propellant is bad fit the airfyer longevity)

—Don't make batches toooo small. Sort of opposite end of spectrum of what @dealking reports. Thinking I'd experiment with single-serving batches, I wound up with batches of dried-up shriveled vegs until I tried more quantity.

—if you like chicken, for an easy win, can try this:

          • @caperite: Thanks guys for the tips. More experiment by myself might be needed!

    Excuse the ignorance.
Is an air fryer just a small oven?
Or is is truly an evolution of the oven?

      Hi Bob

FYI - We (Family of 3 - adult child) have had the Philips XXL for 3 years now - and now have a spare one - we do not use the main oven except for the occasional sweet bake such as cakes etc.

      Airfryer gets used EVERY day.

I would however recommend getting the XXL - more expensive - but so much worth it.
