Samyang 24-70mm F2.8 Sony FE Lens, a good alternative to the Sigma 24-70mm art.
Good for anyone who bought the A7 IV yesterday.
Price seems pretty good compared with other places.

  • Pretty cheap for a 2.8 24-70mm. Wonder what the quality is like compared to Sony/Tamron.

    • I own the Samyang 85mm 1.4 FE mount and it is much better than the similar priced Sony 85mm 1.8. Except for the branding and warmer colour cast the build quality, autofocus and Bokeh is a step up and I am considering getting the 50mm 1.4 Mk II version.

I definitely recommend researching up autofocus motors used on any Samyang lens purchased as it is mainly the newer lens that have the better spec versions.

One nice feature on Tamron lens is the shared filter thread size across many in their range. I would recommend checking both autofocus and Bokeh - I have owned three older macro and telephoto G1 lens in the last that has been just okay in both regards (Bokeh nothing special and the autofocus hesitates/not as quick as acquiring lock like the Sony equivalent) and their standard zoom is the same. The newer lens should be better in this area.

I have about $10k worth of RF lenses. The samyang 85mm 1.4 AF is the only non canon lens amongst them and it is my favourite. Effing beautiful quality for about $850.

  • Not sure on reviews of this, but I'd probably go for something more tested from Sigma like the 28-70 2.8, especially if you don't need the 24mm on the wide end. It's only 870 from the digi ebay sale

    • Or even over the Sigma, the Tamron is much higher rated than both aforementioned options.

      • Higher rated only as far as popularity. In terms of IQ, value, handling there are pros and cons to both. The Sigma is slighty cheaper and also smaller and lighter, it depends on your priorities. Personally I'd go the Sigma. Comparison

        • I mean the huge negative against the Sigma is autofocus - checked the review quickly and even he says he wouldn't trust it! That's pretty shaky for a brand new modern lens

    • Price dropped today. Someone bought the same one from the same store yesterday for ~$250 more…
