How The Heck Is This Chrysotile Still Possible to Buy So Easily?

Talking about this kinda thing

It may seem like a joke to you, But chrysotile is not something you want to have any where near you. Pretty sure its not legal in Australia. Especially given how many people have suffered from it because of James Hardy's companies.

Anyway what do you think, isn't this too dodgy/risky/unsafe/illegal ?

The major two countries still producing these Chrysotile materials are Russia, and Canada.

I find it sickening and heart breaking that there are no regulations in other regions of world banning use of these or production of these.

Surely eBay Australia should be well aware of such illegal items, and should not be allowing to be shipped to Australia.

Note I did not order any, Nor would I. I aint tryin to get mesothelioma.

  • Nearly all those listings say "from India" which appears to be the only nation that still argues asbestos is not carcinogenic…

I would imagine they won't get past customs here if they do detect it.

Having said that, don't underestimate how many people still believe asbestos if undamaged and untouched is perfectly fine. It still lines many many many Australian homes and garages.

    • Yes that's the problem, I think other countries need to put ban on these too, Its not a wonder material,
The thing that's worrying is a lot of material (like fibrous sheets which are undetected by ABF) from Chinese , and other Indian goods still contain some sort of asbestos even today.
I hope Border protection manages to catch these before they reach in hands of ordinary Australians.

  • The linked jewelry looks sealed fortunately, still I don't know why you'd buy it. I feel sorry for the workers manufacturing it.

    • Yes that's exactly what's worrying something as simple as accidentally dropping these may lodge these fibers loose outside of seal.

Well, unless you are going to start cutting and/or grinding these stones, you should be fine.

Although the people at the factory where these are made, might be a different story for them.

Also note, I wouldn’t buy this shit because of the potential for it to have loose dust on it from the factory or for it to be dropped and break, exposing the fibres.

And it is illegal in Australia, so, you can use the “report” function on eBay or contact them through their online chat and have a word to someone there that may be able to escalate it.
