Is It Possible to Track down PlayStation 5?

My PS5 was stolen today. Still in shock!

It was brand new and never plugged in but I have serial number. Is there a way to track it using the serial number once the other person plugs it ?

    How was it stolen?

Probably a credit card insurance job - asking to see if he can get busted.

      • You'd hope not, fraud is a very serious crime but then again there's some really stupid people out there.

doesn't help when a lot of OPs post has been about warranty claims and insurance. Anyways not to doubt OP but it is hard to imagine someone stealing a PS5? Please let us know

This. How exactly did you get it stolen?

There is no specific way to track a PS5 via the serial number. Only thing that would be useful is to prove it's yours once found by police and/or reporting it to Sony once you have a police report to block it. Will probably be long sold to someone else by then.

Hopefully you have contents insurance to replace it and you may want to consider putting an AirTag into your next one.

Provide the serial number to police. If the thief takes it to a pawn shop the sale will be blocked and there's a chance you'll get it back.

Yes police report has been lodged and I have also contacted Sony to get it bricked (not sure whether they will do it).

I am only keen to find out if somehow Sony can track it, so the police can nab the culprit.

      • Sony likely can track down the person the thief sold it to via details they enter into the system.

But I doubt they would do it for you and the police won't ask.

  • Is it possible to track down PlayStation 5?

Not really automatically, but I'd still put a thing in with the police. Then check up on local Facebook groups/Gumtree and second hand shops close by as they usually try to flog it for cash not long after. As its a stolen good, I think if you find it there you can get it back?

  • Keyboard warrior here.
Yes it's possible, if you have the tech, know the right people.
But probably best to move on and buy a new one.

    • I assume you are joking because thats wrong…

      • What's wrong with it? So just wait until police track him down, maybe another 5 years, when PS6 is out?

        • No as in.. you are making up lies that aren't true.

          • @samfisher5986: What's not true? I'm sure the right person with the tech can track the console if it goes online. Probably Sony can. But will they assist and inform the police? Will police be bothered to hunt this thief down to retrieve the stolen console?

            • @lilkid28: You watch too many movies… you can't track people like that, you can't hack like that and PS5's don't have GPS.

Sony could wait for someone to login and enter personal information such as address, but Sony aren't going to help you with that.

              • @samfisher5986: That's pretty much what I'm saying. If Sony helped. And yes, if he's tech savvy enough to hack into Sony's system or know anyone who does. Not sure how thats watching too many movies. Anyway still don't understand how it's wrong and making lies… lol
