Has anyone used Members Equity for a home loan?

If so, how has your experience been? Their interest rates seem quite reasonable.

They are fantastic. I have three home loans with them. I got the first one eight years ago and wanted a 'bells & whistles' loan. Someone from the bank called me to let me know that that particular loan would cost me lots extra for no gain. It would have made the bank lots of extra money. Since then they've always been happy to help with anything I've needed and you always get straight through to a person rather than being stuck talking to a machine.

I don't usually bother responding in forums, but when I saw you asking about these guys I really wanted to say something. Telstra and so many companies annoy the hell out of me. This bank has only ever made me want to say good things about all they've done. Even the solicitor was gobsmacked when they charged no fees at the start.

whats telstra's current interest rate on home loans???

  • Fantastic - thanks for that chrisburnett. Their rates look good, and already just in the enquiries stage they've been quite helpful, and yes, we've gotten to talk to people …. in Australia. lol.

I was really hoping the eagerness to help wasn't going to vaparise once we'd signed on the dotted line. Your comments are very encouraging. Thanks. :)

And I know EXACTLY what you mean about Telstra.

  • I got my home mortage with Members Equity (since rebranded as ME Bank) about 9 years ago and 2 years later extended the loan value to purchase a block of land as well. In all of my dealings with them they have been very easy to deal with, prompt, helpful and professional, and their variable loan rate has always been competitive. My experiences mirror those of chrisburnett above.

  • Thanks for that iseenya - sounds encouraging.

  • Dammit, they've refused to process our first home owners grant application, with FHOG as part of our deposit. We have the genuine savings etc etc, and were using FHOG to increase the percentage of our deposit. Even State Revenue could not understand their reasoning.

We cannot do it ourselves until after settlement. Just as well we had a plan B

  • Very weird - ME Bank is an approved agent for the OSR so it shouldn't have been an issue. They should be able to pay the FHOG at settlement of your loan - might be worthwhile checking with another loan writer at ME.

    • He CLAIMED to have checked it with their legal team and on the offchance that our FHOG application was rejected (which it wouldn't have been,) the fact that we were using it as part of our deposit meant that they would not have all funds on settlement day, so they would not proceed with the loan if it stayed as part of the deposit. Personally I think he's full of s**t and simply doesn't know his job.

might be worthwhile checking with another loan writer at ME.

He's previously made some pretty appalling stuff-ups, so we may well look into that. Hadn't realised we could ask for that to happen, so thanks. Buying a home is stressful enough without people who are supposed to know their job making things harder.
