New Security Verification Prompt Logging into the Maccas App

Seems like they're finally trying to combat the hacked account problem by introducing a new verification step that you have to click through your email if the app detects that you're logging into a 'new' phone for the first time. Got the prompt after I tried to log back into my account.

  • Just logged out and yes you are correct, had to confirm email.

Unfortunately too late for me I had my account compromised on Saturday, 3 orders put through in 3 minutes and only realised as I got confirmation emails for the orders.

    • Did you get your money back?

    • Sorry to hear that, hopefully you can still get a refund through maccas or even a chargeback through your credit card company?

      • Yes have had to cancel card, I assume I’ll get a refund through my bank. They mentioned it is actually rather common recently.

Tried to contact Maccas but I could only send them feedback/a complaint which I’m sure won’t even be read

Yeah surprised it took a company of this size to implement some sort of 2FA security step for an app with stored payment methods, especially since it also kinda dissuades people from having multiple accounts lol. But then again seeing the shitshow that was their initial rollout and all the bugs/slowness I guess maybe not.

  • Hmm seems prices has been jacked on their app deals, quarter pounder x 2 now 14 instead of 8/9.

    • Yeah was also about to comment on that price jack, used to be $8/9 (also why the hell does maccas have different priced 'deals'??) and one of the new offers was 1/4 pounder x2 for $15. Also this new verification step inadvertently made rotating between accounts to check deals a pain in the ass haha, I even checked on an older version and it still cropped up.

    • Looks like the old deals are still there, just got both the $8 and $9 versions of the 2x small quarter pounder meals deal with today's new batch.

  • What's this hacked account problem?

    • Literally the thread below mine is about someone being hacked and orders made through their account and stored payment method. I personally don't think people are actually getting 'hacked' hollywood-matrix style, and 99% of the time it's just a case of sharing passwords or using a dead simple one eg 12345.

      • ok, yeah agree, I don't think it's a widespread issue.

  • Mine hasn't worked in a while just comes up with the yellow app
