Miele microwaves - anywhere to find a discount?

Hi everyone, a relative has his place's 10+ years old Miele microwave waved the white flag. He's thinking of replacing it with a new one after the technician quoted a repair/replacement of the faulty part cost ~$780 (can't remember exact, but below $800). We were both shocked when we looked up their microwave (only have one model without any combination features) and it costs at least $2899.

Is there any like membership/commercial channels (eg TGGC?) that gives some form of discount for Miele appliances?

I feel bad for him since the microwave is part of the cabinetry/already there when they got the apartment. So going with a standalone one is just going to look hideous.

  • In Man vs Bee, Miele are used a lot in many aspect of the house. These things are nice.

  • anywhere to find a discount?

    No

    • That's my thought too =S but was going to give the OzB brains a go first.

The stores selling them are representing Miele, they are agents. They are not allowed to discount.

You can try the Miele outlet though…

They do a couple of sales per year.

        • Ooo thanks, will forward that info.

But wow, it is quite out of town. I guess maybe he can try go for a day trip XD

          • @zrmx: Call them and ask if they have any sales coming up.

I think you'll find that most OZB's don't have expensive stuff like that.

as hideous as spending $3000 on a microwave? or is it a combo that's also an oven oven.

"look hideous": Worth $800? Or spend a bit more effort and trawl for a similarly sized one for a reasonable amount? 🤔

Our apartment came with all Miele appliances. The microwave stopped working after 6 years. I knew it would cost at least $300 for Miele to come out and I could buy a perfectly good new one for that price. I removed it along with the built in framework quite easily just a couple of screws. The new one looks fine. As a matter of interest there are 27 units in our block, which is 8 years old. Nearly one third of the microwaves have had problems and most owners have done what we have done.

  • that gives some form of discount for Miele appliances

Miele control the prices, all 'sellers' are just agents that pass the sale over to Miele in exchange for a kick back.

  • Many brands make an integrated microwave. The integration kit is normally the same width as a wall oven. 60cm-596mm
I’m guessing something like this would fit.

Do you know which model the Miele is and the dimensions? Was it a Miele technician that quoted $780? Or a third party repairer?

    • Got told by the Miele technician. I guess he already put his foot into the water by having the Miele tech visiting/servicing.

A good cabinet maker and a stand alone LG for around $200 will do a pretty good job.

Had an inbuilt that carked it after 30 odd years and went for a standalone, it's great.
Admittedly if you have a new kitchen it would look out of place.

      x lots.

      • Our cabinet maker made us a housing for around $400 fully installed. Just gave them the dimensions of the opening. the material and the dimensions of the microwave.

Miele make great Dishwashers, Ovens and Washing Machines. Microwaves, not so much.

No one produces good microwaves like the Japanese (Koreans not far behind).

Get a Panasonic or Sharp convection with a trim kit.

The trim kit is about the price of a (non convection) microwave!

Miele are notorious in never, or very rearely being discounted, by anything more than 5-10% if you spend $Xk or buy a whole kitchen/laundy full of appliances.

Our 8 year old Miele fridge died recently. The technician assessed it as a fault that could not be repaired. He provided a report to that documented that. We contacted Miele, provided the report and they offered 20% off a new fridge.

You could give that a try!
