External Drive Bargain for Macs?

Today's $99 2TB USB 3.0 bargain is great for PCs - but what's a good bargain for Mac storage?

Buy that drive and format it to the filesystem you want?

There are virtually no differences between Windows and Mac externals, only the format and price.

DONT do what s/he said. you'll only be limiting it to macs if you do
rather search for "ntfs for mac"
      here is an example: http://download.cnet.com/NTFS-3G/3000-2094_4-10913782.html
its an old version but should still work
after installing you should be able to use any windows formatted (ntfs) hard drive

All of these external drive have been formatted to Fat32, you can used them on a Mac.
I use a Seagate external on my mac without any problems.

If you have a problem Dilbery right you can reformat it.

Oh, I do fine the drive more stable after you reformat it.

fat32 is slower and has a file size limit of 4gb

    • Any drive over 2TB will NOT come in FAT32 as this is a hard limit. FAT32 also has other issues (some mentioned, but also security, reliability etc).

EDIT: Should mention that ExFAT is a 'solution' of sorts for larger volume cross platform media, but it is MS type of 'open' (The fact that this format is standardised by sdxc is criminal).

  • Thanks Guys. I have that drive and will proceed tonite :)
