Hearing Aid Purchase Assistance- cost , best place and guidelines

Hi all ,
Looking to buy hearing aids for my dad who lives in overseas. Never done this before and completely zero knowledge. Hope you guys can help me.
01. Do you need a hearing test report to buy hearing aid? or is there any standard ones which you can buy and adjust ?
02.I see some cheap hearing aids on ebay . Are they any good ? Does anyone has experienced this ?
03. best place to buy ?
04.what are the initial and running costs associated with this .

Any helpful idea is greatly appreciated .

Need Audiologist report which will inform you most appropriate aids.

I wouldn't buy aids off of ebay. Hearing Savers is recommended but as this person is OS unless they qualify they wouldn't get any govt/medicare/ndia assistance

    • thank you very much for your advise, appreciated

You can't just buy him hearing aids and send them to him, there will need to be some appointments with an audiologist where they are adjusted. You'll have to get him to come to you or book him in for appointments in his own country.

Also if your dad is an Australian citizen (I guess unlikely if he is living elsewhere) then he will qualify for free hearing aids through Australian Hearing if he is over 65 (I think). If he has just retired overseas then it is worth coming back and getting hearing aids.

This, just send him funds, he can source it from there.

    • H is living in Sri Lanka and age 90years.So he cannot come here and in Sri Lanka they do not have any gvt assistance. Taking your point I will send some money to buy from there .

You havent mentioned where he is, but does he live somewhere with a Costco? They have good hearing aid centers with decent hearing aid prices.

    • H is living in Sri Lanka and unfortunately not near costco. Thank you for your advise

Going off this site they're cheaper in Sri Lanka than here anyway - https://www.ear.lk/hearing-aid-prices-sri-lanka/. That was from a quick google, there's probably better places.

There's no benefits to buying in Australia unless he's here and can get govt support. As mentioned though, they need to be setup by an audiologist.
