Air Vent in Ceiling Loose - How to Fix?

I was cleaning the louvres in the ceiling vents for my evaporative air con

This one was slightly loose around one part the frame but by the time I removed the louvres and cleaned the dusty frame with a rag it was really loose, basically falling out of the ceiling

Is there a way to tighten it up? It feels really loose and like the hole in the ceiling is cut too large.

I can't see any obvious area where it screws into the ceiling so I'm assuming it is connected only to the black plastic vent system above.

What you're after is a few of these. Push the grille up and push these through the holes you see so they hit plaster and keep it up.

    • Thank you Tim.

So should I remove these 4 clips first on the north/South sides (pic) and replace them with the clips you mentioned?

There are holes on the east/West sides of the frame that haven't got clips in them, should I put them in there instead?

      • As long as they're holding it in just leave them, and put the new ones where they fit. They might just need further pushing if they've come loose.

      • It looks like it's on an angle. You could try removing it and if it's not broken put it back straight. If broken you can use a wood screw to secure the vent to the roof beam.

        • When I push the grill frame up that plug goes really loose, I'm not sure it's holding onto anything

Is the screw meant to be angled with the curve facing down into the ceiling to provide like some kind of feet?
Or is it meant to be screwed into the plaster of the ceiling?

@eckorock: The plastic breaks on these and they come loose. The end that is not split is meant to press down on the plaster to hold the vent up, the other end ratchets in to keep it there. If broken you can use a long wood screw to secure the side of the vent that is near a ceiling joist.

I picked up a set of 4 grille vent clips from Polyaire for $1.83 :)

      • That's better than eBay. Was it in-store or online?

        • I drove to the office

        • The ones from Polyaire were a different shape to the ones you linked me to, and a bit too big, so I had to use cutters to tear some of the plastic off the ridge, but in the end it did the job.

The eBay ones were probably the right size and shape so I might get some just in case I need to do more repairs in the future

    Looks like a brivis

  • There is also this supplier

    https://www.airdiffusion.com.au/air-conditioning-parts-onlin…

    Similar price to eBay

Strange as a supplier that they charge so much more than Polyaire for essentially the same product.
