What to Do with Old iPhone Cases?

I've got an interesting problem

I've been using an iPhone 8 for a while and I'm thinking of upgrading it probably to an iPhone 13. Problem is that I've spent too much on an Otterbox Defender case back in the day and now it won't fit the new phone. Is there a place that I can trade in old iPhone cases for cash or something?

You are not going to get much if anything for it, but you could always try throwing an ad up on Fartbook or Scamtree. You may get $5 or something for it.

The problem is that it’s an older phone and not many people are going to want your dirty, old, scuffed up iPhone case.

true, also buying a new case for an old phone is super cheap since there is no longer a demand for it. even $50 iPhone 13 cases are going for $10, and iPhone 12 cases are going for $1 @ jbhifi
so at that price scale, you have to pay people to take an iPhone 8 case, lmao.

best thing to do is to package deal it with your old phone.

I was able to sell an Otterbox case for not much less than what I bought it for on eBay, granted it was for the 11 Pro and it was current at the time.

Given that the iPhone 8 case is compatible with (from memory) the 6/6s/7 and SE, you may have some luck in getting rid of it, but don't expect people to be paying much for a used case.

I've switched to using biodegradable cases (Pela and the like) so that there isn't the guilt of binning the case when the time comes to get rid of your phone.

    A. What is eBay?

Where you sell it for $5 and they take $39 worth of fees from you. eBay is useless for selling one off, low value items.

Then OP needs more used iPhpne cases to make a sale viable.

What are you intending to do with the old phone? If you are selling it, privately, you could include a few bucks more for the case.

Or just a normal price but the inclusion of the case differentiates your phone from the rest that are for sale so better chances of getting the sale

Or if the OP has a broken phone/sold it already, they can simply give the OtterBox away for free. This benefits a new user, and gets rid of your dilemma. And if enough people start thinking this way, they will pay it forward and we all benefit as a society.

I usually drop any old ones, that are in decent nick, to the Op shops.

        • Yes if it were me it would be going straight on my buy nothing Facebook group

    • I was planning to trade it in at the Apple shop, but that's also an idea

Before you do that look into something like mobile monster

        https://mobilemonster.com.au/

They might give you more for it and you aren’t restricted to buying from Apple.

If you are selling through these guys then make sure you take lots of pictures of the phone before you hand it over so you have a clear idea on the quality. Be prepared that they might call your “excellent” phone as “working” so have a clear idea if there are dints.

For people in Melbourne there is a drop off in the city.

Have a look at a few of the options.
