Ducted Aircon Has Been Broken since Install and Daikin Can't Tell Me When Parts Will Arrive

Hi all.

We had a new Daikin 16kW system installed in March and since install, it hasn't worked properly (total cost was over 15k).
Daikin have had multiple people out and the last person to come said the outdoor board needs replacing as it is making a buzzing sound which is causing the unit to not ramp up.
The service ticket with Daikin has been in for over 2 months now (prior to that, it was with the installer who kept tweaking settings but to no avail).

I've been trying to call them for the last 2 weeks to understand what is going on and am getting nowhere - I finally got onto someone today who told me that they don't have an ETA on the outdoor board and can't tell me when it will be fixed as they are having a huge problem with parts at the moment.

Given that this unit is brand new and essentially dead on arrival, is there anything more than can be done? Or just a case of shit happens?
We had our gas heater ripped out for this thing and it hasn't worked since install. Essentially, a DOA unit.

It's pretty poor to be selling a current model unit that you can't get parts for (I would think that the boards are a pretty common part). Wish they would just replace the whole outdoor unit itself.

Major fault. Consumer Guarantee. Write a letter and ask for a refund in accordance with your rights.

  • (I would think that the boards are a pretty common part)

No its relatively specific actually… but that doesnt absolve Daikin of stuffing you around.

    • Sorry, you are right. When I say common, I mean common at failing. I understand they are specific to the make and model.

  • That really sucks. I hope it gets sorted soon.
I've also got a problem with mine - leaking gas apparently.
Not sure how much it will cost to fix this.

I'd be asking the installer to install a new outdoor unit if you've had issues this long. Get them to contact their Daikin rep.

I've had a positive experience with Daikin service.

I'd be insisting that the unit be replaced with a new one considering it was DOA

    • I guess DOA = Dead on Arrival.
Ours was DOA = Degraded on Arrival, so not quite the same.
And it took us a few months to report it to Daikin as the installer took forever to confirm it wasn't an issue with installation (he came back no less than 5 times to change missing settings etc).

      • ok, fair enough.

But there was still a fault from the start, so dead or not, it was faulty and not working as it should be. The installer should be responsible to replace it, and then send the faulty one back to the supplier.

  • Sorry no input or advice, just wanted to get an understanding on your system.

You mentioned you had your gas heating ripped out… Out of interest, is this Daikin unit a full electric reverse cycle heating and cooling unit?

I'm looking at a full electric reverse cycle heating and cooling unit myself, brands came to light are Actron, Daikin and Rinnai. I guess I may stay away from Daikin if you've got this system in place?

Yes that's right. We had a gas heater (worked a treat) with add-on cooling.
The cooling shit itself and as it's such an old unit, there wasn't really an add-on cooling available and compatible with the aircon, so we decided to go for a Daikin electric reverse cycle heating/cooling.

Daikin may be fine, but my experience so far hasn't been (both with product and service).
