Ship item from USA website to Australia, is it possible for lower shipping fees?

After seeing the flamingo glass on an instagram reel, I am highly interested in this BarConic® Flamingo Cocktail Glass - 14oz. I have seen this product only on their three websites but not anywhere else.

It is back in stock after months but the shipping fee from USA to Australia is showing up as USD $94 for a product that is USD $9.99

I was thinking of using a service such as Vpost but I havent used that before.

Is there any way to bring it to australia with lower shipping fees?

The way I see it is if I visit USA anytime soon, only then i can get it.

Ask if they can send it via US post and how much it will cost? UPS is a courier and as such international shipments are expensive.

If they are on Amazon it may be cheaper in total. Worth a try.

    • recently got stuff shipped from the US, it was about 50 AUD for stuff of comparable size to this glass (but not delicate) with USPS

      • So they do ship via UP post.

        • not from these guys.

their shipping info states they do not ship to certain countries, yet offer the option for the buyer to organise delivery with their own carrier, presumably they'd be open to using USPS over UPS.

Does it have to be that brand? There are plenty of similar looking ones on amazon eg https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09WJ68J1V/ (and plenty of other novelty glasses if you scroll down to similar products).

Shipping from USA seems to be really expensive compared to (subsidised) from China etc.

I tried a freight forwarder once and it cut the shipping costs significantly - but it wasn’t a $10 item! And was still a fair bit cheaper than the locally sourced product.

It’s a $10 glass. Just watch a few more reels until you find something local to waste your coins on.

    • Found this comment interesting regarding subsidised Chinese shipping, is this something the govt generally does for exports? I had never even considered that it was subsidised and just thought that their postal service was generally a lot cheaper.

      • There is also an international mail agreement that any post that arrives at a country will be delivered for free by the receiving country. So export mail was subsidised and then relied on the agreement to get free delivery once it reached Australia. That is how the postage costs from China are so low.

        • I knew about the international agreement (quite an amazing thing in this world), didnt realise about the subsidy though, smart thinking on the Chinese govt part.

    • Man there's this bbq grill that I want to get and the thing itself cost around $500 and the shipping is another $400.

I've used vpost before and they were fine, price was okay but it wasn't something i could get here at all so it was reasonable considering. Their price structure has changed though and i don't think it's for the better. They were a bit slow also as they send it over in bulk with other parcels and then it's put into Auspost system.

If you use a freight forwarder and the glass breaks you may have no recourse. They can say it might have broken on the way to them.
