GAME 25% of All Stock (Some Exceptions) Signs up Last Night at Casula Store

51

Maybe the start of the Game closing sales , nothing on the Website, but may include other stores.
25% off will likely just bring prices in line with competitors IMO but a chance to use store credit if you have it.

    Goodbye Game :(

  • It was 40% off everything at the ones that were closing a week or so ago, even then i had trouble finding anything worth buying.

    • +3

That is why they have to close.

  • +2

Would have thought store credit would no longer be honored if their in receivership?

    • +1

Dunno, I could never get my head around buying a game at a premium price then selling it back for a pittance. Sure they have to cover their costs but that doesn't make it viable.

      • +1

        Not really relevant.

        • Nope nor this

        • Well actually I was correcting a mistake in the OP, how could it be any more relevant?

        • -2

How can there be a mistake in my personal opinion. I also like the colour blue btw.

        • -3

          Facepalm
My first post was relavent as I was questioning something said in OP.

Everything past that by you has been off topic.

        • +1

          Never said it wasn't.

    • +2

The receivers were allowing gift cards to be used as long as it was no more than 25% of the total amount paid.

  • +1

    My local is GONE…..
    Never saw a sale
    Open 1 day
    Closed the next
    Boxed up the next
    Very Sad

PS They owe me $54.00 for a preorder…Argh

    • +4

Your money, as a consumer is not important. They have to pay the managers high salaries for all the good work that they've done to manage to destroy a perfectly good brand.

      • +1

        I don't feel so bad now… Cheers

      • +3

I doubt GAME managers were on good salaries…nor would they have any say in how the company was run. Maybe you mean Directors? If you want to get on your high horse, make sure it's not a donkey first.

        • +1

Yeah he probably mean managing directors. No stress, PainToad.

        • So I was right and I get voted down? Good work guys.

        • Mr Toad, calm down before you start hyperventilating.

    • Hornsby closed the same way - suspect they were behind on the rent…

  • +1

Very sad indeed… got some good deals at GAME in the past but most of the time their sales are pretty ordinary. GAME is still the store where I got the best trade in ever… $40 worth of games for $108 credit!

I don't have anymore GAME stores close by anymore so we'll see what the online store has to offer.

  • +2

"25% of All Stock (Some Exceptions)"? If there are exceptions, then it's not "all stock". Come on GAME, pick up your… umm…

  • Negging this beacuse to give a poistive would be to show weakness in the eyes of the true enemy.

You see GAME was collatreal damage of the ongoing import war.

It was caught in the cross fire between us the savvy internet consumer importing cheap from overseas vs the Australian game distributors who still refuse to lower their wholesale price to match their very own overseas prices.

They probably curse the day they didnt region code games!

Yet those ruthless Australian game distribtours are still squeezing us by killing competition in this country. But we the consumer will not lay down and die, we will fight back and we have two unlikley allies on our side!

The heavy weights of JB Hifi and Harvey have taken up arms and doing what a tiny player like GAME couldnt do which is import games from non-australan distributors…yes they are pretty shithouse at it but at least they are throwing down with some firery girl like punches!

So the import war rages on my comrades, that is till those profit hungry Aussie distrbutors realise we are shifting all their profits to their overseas branches…..and yes the profits still ultimately go back to the same parent company overseas (probably to a tax haven in the Cayman islands) but Australia is still much poorer for it.

RIP: GAME…but we will meet again as soon as we stublle upon a cyborg robot we can send back in time to save you and end this war forever.

and yes i have ticked the box to say i am a rep of GAME even though i am not a rep of GAME cause this is my…nay it is 'OUR' spartacus moment…….so yes "I'AM GAME SPARTACUS"!!!!

mod: unchecked rep box. Note that the rep box is not a game.

    • TL;DR

      just negged

    • What a bunch of rambling.

Save this for the forums you muppet.

    • What a freak

I saw this sale, but the sign said, 25% off prices that weren't already reduced. No Deal

    • Paying in cash, knowing their closing down 25% isn't much

  • They only had 25% off when I walked past the Parramatta store today, didn't bother going in to check as I don't need to buy anymore games lol…

  • My closest is closed, was there last week ;0(

  • My friend and I scored pretty well at the Kingsley store in WA - the guys there were understandably bummed but let us get the new Ghost Recon for $53 and a bunch of other games at cost.
Sucks they're gone but at least they can say they had kick-ass service right until the end.

  • No eftpos, cash only at my local store.

  • My local also had 25% off but it "excluded already reduced items" which was a pretty significant exception.

i.e. the ones already on sale stayed at the original sale price. The discount was therefore on the older games and probably secondhand stock.

  • how long till EB crashes and burns?

    • Picard facepalm

  • It looks like the end for GAME here in SA. The Marion store is closed (taken over by Gametraders) and the Colonnades store has 25% off everything - except consoles and digital cards, and most of the games that were on sale previously are back to normal prices, so there's no point rushing into your local store.

GAME just couldn't compete with EB and JB.

JB will undercut almost anyone, and EB (as expensive as they may be), they do have an awesome returns policy and price matching policy. What other store lets you buy a game and return it within 7 days no questions asked?

As for imports hurting Aussie businesses, well, if Aussie businesses weren't so "greedy" with insane mark-ups, then less of us would buy from overseas. When stores here finally have sales on games, they're still making some profit on the items. Why not try and compete with the overseas market from day one and not months after a game's been released.

All Australian retailers should quit whining about online sites (particularly overseas ones) stealing business away from them. Reduce your prices and we'd gladly buy locally.

    • You can't blame the retailers when it is the distributors keeping the prices so high. The wholesale prices continually change, the retailers cost price always changes as do their margins. Ie. they don't pay the same amount for a game normally to when it's on sale.
