    Initial thoughts:
$350 worth of Woolworths/Wish gift card(at Dan Murphy's) or Coles Myer gift card(at Liquorland) at 20% for $280

    • +1

They sell WISH gift cards at Dan Murphy's?

      • +5

I visited a Dan Murphy's location last week, and staff told me they have never seen WISH gift cards sold there. The only gift cards they had there were Dan Murphy's gift cards that can only be redeemed at Dan Murphy's. I suspect they once sold WISH gift cards in their stores, but basically stopped selling them by the time Woolworths Group spun off its liquor business (Endeavour Group) last year.

I'm 99% sure that BWS doesn't sell WISH gift cards in their stores anymore. I visited multiple BWS locations late last year, and none sold WISH gift cards. One location had a WISH GIFT CARDS sign above the gift card shelf, but the shelf only stocked BWS gift cards that can only be redeemed at BWS. At another location, the staff member asked me "why would we sell gift cards for wish.com?" 🤦‍♂️

(If anyone was wondering, Liquorland sells Liquorland and Coles Group & Myer gift cards in their stores.)

        • +5

Thanks mate, See you next week Liquorland.

        • I think it was just that the Dan Murphy's gift cards used to work effectively as Wish gift cards before

          • +2

@Wyn-Ryder: Some physical Dan Murphy’s and BWS gift cards actually still effectively function as WISH gift cards, but good luck finding them still being sold these days.

There are currently two versions of physical Dan Murphy’s gift cards (and I’m not counting physical Cellarmasters gift cards, even though they are basically Dan Murphy’s gift cards these days), and these versions have different gift card prefixes1:

            • 628000 505 - this should still function as a WISH gift card

            • 628000 530 - this is only redeemable at Dan Murphy’s. If you attempt to redeem it at Woolworths (for example, you’ll get error messages on the EFTPOS terminal).

In terms of BWS gift cards:

            • 628000 504 - this should still function as a WISH gift card

            • 628000 540 - this is only redeemable at BWS. If you attempt to redeem it at Woolworths (for example, you’ll get error messages on the EFTPOS terminal).

All the Dan Murphy’s and BWS locations I have visited in the last year (and I have been to quite a lot of them) only stock the newer gift cards (628000 530 and 628000 540, respectively). You may get lucky and find the older gift cards still stocked at a Dan Murphy’s or BWS location, but I suspect the older gift cards started being phased out when Woolworths Group changed how you could redeem branded eGift Cards in late 2020.

            1. The three numbers immediately after 628000 is what I call a gift card prefix, as these three numbers are what Woolworths Group uses to distinguish between different gift cards issued by them.

            • @WookieMonster: I have someone on here I message and he gets me 5% discount on wish cards and I use them at Dan Murphys and BWS.

              NO IDEA HOW LOL

              • @[Deactivated]: If we’re thinking of the same OzBargainer, I thought the discount on their WISH gift cards was 6%.

                • +1

@WookieMonster: Maybe they make 1% off me?

Doesn't bother me, 5% is still more than I can get from Dan Murphys.

    • I like ur idea :)

  • What's Bano? Saw huge cashback at GYG recently but appeared to another card like Revolut?

    • +4

similar to Revolut. They have weekly promotions, their cashback promos have been far better than Amex(off late) in many ways
      - Cashback is instant - no hit and miss emails
      - They do have some sort of promotion every week
      - Easy sign up process, application approved almost immediately.. Virtual card was ready to use and got physical card in 2 days.

But there have been complaints in other thread that their customer service is almost inexistent.

      • +1

Are the weekly promos gonna be a permanent thing do you think?

        • Not sure, sorry

    • +1

Maybe good to read some comments, in the first thread I posted a while ago:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711564

  • Looks like you have to deposit money into your "account" to be able to spend it, so seems risky.

    • -1

Just add funds from your credit card(via apple pay) before you make a transaction and use it immediately.

      • I don't see an option in Android app to add cash via cc

      • +5

Isn’t that the equivalent of a cash withdrawal?

        • +1

          Second this

      • wow, it works? just noticed we actually have options to add cash using ApplePay, thanks mate. wondering too, if there'll be any charge from the cc provider, as with Revolut, some ppl says they got charged (depending on the cc, I guess)
Update: I tried on my phone, all my cc were not accepted when selecting ApplePay, debit card only (interestingly, we can select Revolut card)

    • +1

How else will you pay for stuff without funds in the account?

      • Thought it might have been like Afterpay virtual card.

  • I have to add funds from my CC into this app? I then pay in-store using this app payment system?

I guess 20% off Dan Murphys is pretty solid! You can do 7x transactions in-store.

  • Has anyone used the split bill function to get back "upto" 20% cash back?

So could you stack offer to get $10 cashback om $50 and split bill and get another 20% cashback?

Is there a disposal virtual card function?

  • Thanks OP! Is it fine to use just the virtual card to make the purchases? Or should do we need the physical card? Honestly have very little room in my wallet

    • +1

      virtual card works

      • Thanks for confirming!

  • Need help OP! Want to open account, but was told unable to verify your ID. I believe it may be due to my camera problem while taking face iD.

How do I submit documents again?

    Thanks

  • +1

How do we get our Cashback? Do you need a minimum? I'm losing track of all these apps 🤣

    • Fken tell me about it lol

    • No minimum. I bought a $1 Amazon gift card.

    • As a credit on the account.

      • Is it instant? Can you spend it on your next spend or it won't count towards total
        ?

        • it is instant and can spend it immediately

  • Does anyone have any prior experience about whether they are really strict about cracking down people who try to game the system ?

I mean, if I try to make, for example, 2 transactions of $50 each in one Liquorland visit, then will they get upset & cancel my cashback ?

The nearest Liquorland is very far from my home and I really don't feel like making 7 separate daily trips to the place. Lol.

    • +1

I was planning to buy $50 lots, one after each other? I don't see how that's an issue.

    • +1

I think that's the whole purpose of the promotion and don't see an issue here.

You'll receive the cashback immediately so you stop the subsequent transaction in case if you don't receive the cashback.

      • So spend $50, receive $10
Spend $50 again but it costs you $40 because of credit and you receive $10

So every order is $40 after the 1st, until the last when you have $10 leftover? You can spend that $10 anywhere?

        • It’s a bank account, u can just transfer it out, don’t have to spend if u don’t want to

  • Anyone gave it a try today ?
Like can you do more than 1+ transaction and still get the bonus, each additional transaction ?

    • +3

Yes, I got all transactions tracked immediately

      • Did you spend it on gift cards?

      • Hey mate, did you do 7 separate $50 transactions or just one $350 transaction ?

      • Hey mate, did you just spend $50 or a little over ?
Previous promos had “+” symbol against the spend one but this one doesn’t. So just wanted to clarify.

        • I bought a $50 gift card and worked without issues, so spending exactly $50 is fine

  • +2

I just went to BWS and they only had BWS gift cards unfortunately. However, I went to LL after and they had Coles/Myer gift cards, so I bought a $50 gift card in 7 seperate transactions (employee wasn't thrilled about it lol) and got the cashback immediately. Thanks OP!

    • Not trying the 8th by chance? :)

      • Hahah definitely not. I mainly shop at woolies so already not keen on spending $350 at Coles

        • Is it easy and quick to set up?

How long to transfer money too?

It may be useful for a few Dan Murphys orders.

          • @[Deactivated]: Took less than 5 minutes to set up. Transfer via pay id took around 2 hours

  • How do you actually pay in-store via Bano? Does opening the app and clicking the card work or do I have to manually type everything into Google Wallet?

    • Didn't work on Google wallet for me, I had to use my mums iPhone and it worked all good there! Has anyone managed to get the virtual card working on Android?

      • I looked to see if there were any NFC permissions but nothing. Well, I tried just opening the app and trying to pay that way but didn't work, just defaulted to my Google Pay. Couldn't add the card manually by typing it in Google Wallet. Got code OR-TAPSH-08. It indicates I should contact Google to fix it but some search results also indicate that error means that there should be an add to Google Wallet button in the Bano app. I also updated the app.

Anyway, I've contacted Bano and Google.

        • +2

I was able to add the virtual card to google wallet. Just entered details manually. Confirmed all my details then said contacting bank and then asked to text me a code. Haven't actually used to card in store yet though

      • I contacted Google and they fixed it within 24 hours. Added to Wallet.

    • I use iPhone, have to type manually too. There’s no option to add into wallet neither on iPhone

      • There was an option on my mums phone, didn't have to type it in but could add to Apple wallet

        • oh, thanks, good to know, but I assume typing manually should work on any phone

          • @hanofee: Nah it says that it isn't supported by card provider, and I tried on both google and Samsung pay

      • Older versions of the app or older type iPhone have the option to add. Option to add on older phone but not on the new phone.

        • Same experience for me. Older version iOS had option “Add to wallet” but not on the new one.

However, adding it manually to wallet worked.

  • +1

Got a helpful LL employee who was let me purchase a single $350 GC but for payment split across 7, $50 transactions. All worked and got $70 cashback.

    • Cool! I might try that then.

  • Deal didn't work for me. My phone insisted on paying with Google Wallet even while Bano was open on the virtual card screen. Fortunately the Liquorland bloke gave me back my money in cash as they can't cancel the transaction.

    • Opening Bano on virtual card screen will not work while payments.. you are required to add it some sort of wallet(GPay/Apple etc.)

      • Thanks it worked once I did that

    • You need to change the default payment app to Bano to if you want to pay from the app. Otherwise it will use Goggle Wallet as it is the default. Same thing happened when trying to pay in the combank app for another deal.

      • Thanks

  • +3

Bought multiple $50 Coles Myer gift cards. Paid with Bano card in Google wallet.

    Instant cashback notification from app.

Instant cashback money available in my account.

    • +1

you know that you could simply buy a single $350 Coles Myer gift card and ask cashier to split pay 7 x $50 it works and is faster.

      • Yeah, but you assume the cashier knows how to do this.

Easier just to tell them you need separate receipts.

  • anyone know if dans and bws still sell wish cards or they stopped doing that and only sell their own brand now?

    • +1

Continuing on from my previous comment…

I visited three BWS locations and one Dan Murphy’s earlier this week. All of them only sold their own branded gift cards that can only be redeemed at their own stores or on their own websites.

I very much doubt that you’ll find at BWS or Dan Murphy’s these days WISH gift cards or branded gift cards that can be redeemed outside of the brand’s locations.

  • I went to the local LL store and they sell Coles gift card. But the staffs do not know how to activate them.

After scanning and swiping a dozen of times they kindly advise me go to Coles next door :)

    • At one store, the staff member said it was her first Gift Card she had done, though was able to figure it out. They Just need to scan Gift Card and at the end of the transcation they have to swipe the gift card in the eftpos terminal in order to activate it.

  • +1

Got 7 Coles Myer gift cards without issue at Liquorland, $80 total cashback with the referral too, thanks OP.
