Westfield Gift Card Hack 2022 (Fees Involved)

Alright mofos, today I have cracked one of the oldest and unsolved questions of time….. how can I convert my Westfield gift card/s to cash.

This has just worked for today after an hour or so of googling and finding various forums/threads/topics on the issue with many questions and no answers, and to be honest I'm pretty chuffed I cracked it so easily, so thank you in advance for your appreciation. My dream is to get as much media and attention as the influencer who worked out you could use Westfield cards outside of a Westfield and it changed her life…./end sarcasm.

If you want to convert your Westfield Gift Card to cash, try the below method as I'm sure once this gets out the corporations involved (Westfield, Coles, PayPal) will work out a way to ensure you won't be able to do this in the future.

NOTE: you will need two separate PayPal accounts, both verified. Of course I'm not condoning fraudulent behaviour, so if you have a friend/spouse/child who you trust with your hard earned then just use their account and your own.
NOTE 2: the total cost will depend on how much you're wanting to convert, minimum about $3 and up from there however no more than $10 or so.

  1. Go to your local Coles to the gift card section and pickup your selected denomination of the Mastercard Prepaid "A Gift To Shop Anywhere" card (obviously the balance on the Westfield card needs to be at or above the selected amount). I bought a $100 one as I had a Westfield card with $112 on it. They have $50, $100, $250 and $500 from memory. Note there is a $5 fee.
  2. Go to the customer service desk register and kindly hand over the card to the clerk, state you would like to purchase and will pay by savings. They will scan the card and register the date purchased. Then swipe your Westfield gift card, select savings, enter the pin on the back and boom, it will go through (there was a millisecond of doubt for me, and then it said approved almost instantly). You can now dispose of your Westfield card unless there is a balance remaining or you would like to keep as a souvenir or for weekend activities ;)
  3. Go home (or if you want the cash asap you can do it out the front of Coles, however I'd recommend going home).
  4. Log onto the first PayPal account, and go to wallet, add new credit card.
  5. Enter the prepaid card details and then click verify the card. This will charge you $2 (which is refunded).
  6. Go to colesmastercardbalance.com.au and enter the card details. Go to transactions and almost instantly you should see the $2 charge from PayPal with a 4 digit code. Go back to PayPal and enter the code, and it will verify immediately.
  7. On the same PayPal account, go to Send. Enter the details of the 2nd PayPal account, enter the amount, select your newly verified card, and hit send. (Note there is a small fee on this relative to amount, a small price to pay for getting actual CASH IMO).
  8. Sign out of the first PayPal account and login to the second PayPal account.
  9. View payment received on the home screen from your first PayPal account and think "F#ck yes, that dude on that forum was correct"
  10. Transfer your funds from your PayPal balance to your bank account, instantly for a fee or standard for 1-3 business days.
  11. Await your funds to land in your account and go and buy whatever your little heart desires.

There you have it, enjoy and may the gift card gods forgive me =)

OK. It worked, but you lost a bit of value. Just a step further than this similar post that is also by a first-time poster.

    • @neoika hmm yes it is similar but mine is better as you get cash into your bank.

      • Cash into your bank acc with a fee (around 2.6%).

Orrrrrrrrrrr…. since they work as eftpos cards anywhere, you could spend the card on things you'd buy normally, saving time dicking around with this, and money at every step along the way?

    • Such as groceries, given first step was to go to Coles.

I don’t understand how this is a hack? It’s probably the most counter intuitive and counter productive thing I’ve ever read. You end up losing close to 10% of the initial value and cost of the purchased gift card in question

Half the steps is how to add a card to PayPal lol

What's the advantage of this. Are you going to buy another westfield card with the cash?

  • You need to value your time buddy, at the end of the day if you use that cash to purchase goods you could have just used the card for, what was all this for?
