You get what you pay for, that's an 800x480 resolution projector. It's not even full 480p…

What do you use it for? Have tried a few of these cheapo ones and they're all pretty rubbish.

    • Actually I think the one I linked was incorrect - it looks the same but was 1080p apparently

It takes 1080p signal and reports to your computer as a 1080p display, but down-convert it to fit its resolution.

You pay for what you get.

Low end projector has bad contrast, bad resolution, bad color, but most importantly bad brightness.

I personally think there's not much point to go for a sub $500 projector because ok-ish lens cost that much anyway.

You'd rather get a Kogan 55' TV (which isn't great already) than a low end projector.

This guy does a lot of in-depth reviews for budget projectors. https://www.youtube.com/c/jayceooi/videos.
I would suggest one of the BlitzWolf options for under $200.

Also, I'm not sure how this compares, but specs wise it seems adequate, and $200 from Big W (has been as low as $140 in the past).

    • Wow - amazing you can get a new projector that cheap. Bulb doesn’t look too bright though, I presume these would require a completely dark room to be effective?

      • Yup, would need a pitch black room for 300 ANSI lumens. And while it goes up to 200 inches, it would be very dim at that size. You'd probably go for 60-70 inch screen instead (or smaller, even in a pitch black room). I had a 1000 ANSI lumen projector and sometimes it wasn't bright enough for some games/movies.

They're good for movie nights outside with the kids or while camping or where portability/space is important and you're ready to deal with the atrocious quality because you can't haul around a cheap TV everywhere you go.

    • I bought one he reviewed, the Wanbo X1 Pro. Was about $200.

      Pretty happy with it.
