    $1750 Annual Fee

    👀

    • Technically you could cash in the points and still walk away with $500 before factoring in the other card perks. But yes, definitely not a deal for everyone. Wait until you see the Centurion annual fee though…

This is all a foreign language to me.

I'll probs ignorantly keep cash-flowing my own life until someone ELI5s the net benefit of CCs 🤷🏼‍♂️

It's easy. As per the description 450k = $2,250 if you redeem the points for charges (wouldn't recommend that). So after the $1750 fee, you would still be $500 better off if that makes sense. Most people would go for flights though as you can get more value.

ELI5: With American Express cards, you can use points to pay off your credit card. 450,000 points = $2,250 when used in this way.

          Annual fee of card is $1750 - so 2250 - 1750 = $500.

Then cancel before the annual renewal to avoid the second year fee (keep for less than 365 days)

  • Do you know how the Dell credit works? The welcome pack comes with a brochure for this offer and has a link and all so it seems like a welcome offer but I have had the card for almost a month now but yet to see the Dell credit offer. The link on the brochure redirects to the standard Amex Plat Enrol website where the offer is not listed.

Spoke to Amex Chat they said its just a general offer and should appear in your offer section, but no luck so far. So finding this Dell Credit as a guaranteed signup thing somewhat misleading

    • On my card, it shows under the offer tab. You then just buy something at Dell and the $ gets credited back. The last offer renewed on July 1. If it doesn't show, get the chat support to add it manually

      • yes did all that. They said they can't add it manually, it will just appear under the offers section, but nothing so far.

        • hmmm, if you have time call them instead and they should be able to raise a ticket.

        • you should also have a dedicated account manager, they can usually take care of this too.

There was a recent offer for the same card for 300k bonus points and half price annual fee the first year. Considering Amex points transfer to most airlines at a rate of 2:1 then the extra 150k points would be worth 75k airline points. Qantas points can be sold for 1c/point so those 75k qf points (or 150k amex points) is worth about $750. In other words, this offer is nothing special.

    • Amex Points have more value than simple Qantas points due to the ability to transfer to multiple partners. 75k Krisflyer points and $100 can easily book a $4000 business class flight for example.

  • Looks like a card for the professionals

    • the spending is quite high

      • I would imagine $12k would be an easy spend for a business though.

  • Do ATO payments count towards the $12k?

Also, do the ABN has to be over 24 months old? Some places don't like fresh ABNs.

    • I got it with ABN 14 months old

Can you get a part refund of the annual fee if you cancel after say a month or two?

  • It's not worth it.

    • +1

      I would buy 450k points for $1750

    • If you don't travel or not use points wisely

  • What do you need to provide to show business turnover?

    • I just told them over the phone! No paperwork supplied at all.

  • There’s no limit to the number of points you can earn, and they don’t expire as long as you’re an active Cardmember.

Newby question: do the points accrue to the card, or to the member? So if I downgrade to a free Amex card after 364 days, do I keep the points? Or do I have to transfer them away to another points scheme like KrisFlyer before I downgrade?

    • +1

You can link your membership rewards to another card, so yes downgrading to the no annual fee one is an option if you wanted to keep the points. That said, Platinum does give you access to both Qantas and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club so keep that in mind.

      • What's the benefit of this please?

        • Which part of the reply are you asking about?

  • +1

FYI - if you hunt around you CAN pay ato, etc with Sniip (@1.5%) or b2b for 2.2% ( I think) and get the full 2.25 point = value if you want to fly in the sharp end ( based on your maths and how you see the world🤑

  • i got approved and recieved the card! Thanks

whats the protocol for trying to use the perks on personal trips? I can imagine the line can get blurry at times
