    You have 2 options.

    1) Go direct route: https://www.rinnai.com.au/support-resources/online-service-b…

    2) Find a local heating/plumbing specialist and ask them. No idea where you are, would have been helpful, but there's tons of them around.

Rinnai error code 18 is a thermocouple output error so could be faulty sensor or equipment needing replacement.

Here's an option to try yourself: https://www.fixya.com/support/t24509709-rinnai_avenger_25_er…

    • Extremely likely to be the thermocouple. Sometimes they get a bit of dust or cobweb if the heater sits unused, so a wipe down of the bit that sticks in next to the flame is a good first step.
You can get a replacement part, looks like about $100 on ebay.
If you take the unit to the local gas appliance store, they will likely do it in 24hr for $150ish.
Ring a couple to get an estimate.

I had this heater for about 10 years and it gave me the same error. I opened it up and was amazed at how complicated it is - you can't just take off the cover and expose a chassis to which everything is neatly attached, rather it's like a labyrinth of little sheet metal parts holding together. Nonetheless I did get in and checked it out, gave it a good clean, found a bit of residue on the ignition rods. Put it back together and it came good only to error again after a couple of hours of use. Plenty of youtube clips for Rinnais but never found one specific to this model

This year I replaced it with another heater - the same model. 10 years of pretty solid use over winter, would've liked longer but obviously I liked it enough to repeat. Rinnai service charges felt too expensive and having seen other service techs do various fixes I was concerned they'd not really get the job done properly anyway.

If you're game maybe give it a go looking inside, but TBH it's pretty complicated and, essentially being a controlled explosion, you don't want to get anything wrong.

Remove the filters on the back and clean them with compressed air. Also take cover off machine and blow the dust out with compressed air.
These machines should be serviced by a gas plumber routinely.
What city are you in? Just google gas heater repairs.
