without the DLC, i think this game is still nice on its own. i think it's worth the $13. but it's a JRPG so my expectations are different.
Most of the DLC from memory is after the main storyline, I wasn't really motivated to keep at it after the main questline to be honest. Not to say it couldn't be great content, just that it wasn't a smooth transition into it or a compelling hook to make me go back

Oh I actually remember reading that this was meant to be really good for lovers of old school RPG's. EDIT: No wait that was the first one. This is meant to be ok.
