So does that mean the war in Ukraine is over?

  • It's been this price all through the shortage on this website..anyone actually ordered and received?

This is about half the current Sydney wholesale price

  • Paid $8 each last time :(
    Everything is so expensive

    • +1

Hand in your Oz bargain licence, none of us would pay $8 for 1 lettuce

Just when I thought the world can't get any madder, we get a lettuce deal on Ozbargain : ) .

Done. I noticed this happened a couple of hours ago too, I checked and then rechecked 5 minutes later and poof!!! it was back in stock!

  • sometimes when im out of lettuce because it's too expensive i'll freeze water in really thin sheets that I make by using a spray bottle to give a few quick sprays over the glass shelving in the freezer… I wait until the ice has frozen and ill put a sheet or so in my burger etc..

if you don't overthink it or make the ice sheets too thick or too drippy, you couldn't tell the diff…

Don't you find them a bit too flavoursome, or do you use distilled water?

Let us have a discussion on Lettice discourse

    • Did you know that during Corona, in 2021, Arnott's discontinued Lattice biscuits?
If people aren't aware, Lattice were like Saos, only sweet. Edible and enjoyable on their own, people also used them for the bases of slices etc.

Discontinue? that's the most un-australian thing I've ever heard

  • For $2.95 I'm wondering if the lettuce are the size of tennis balls?

I been seeing it for $6-7 the past couple weeks roughly double the size of a tennis ball. I've been enjoying the cheap avos lately and avoiding expensive tiny lettuce.

Been craving lettuce but at $7 for a handful they can stick it

  • I saw a cucumber for $15 yesterday

  • Someone send this deal to KFC's and HJ's CEOs. They're still using (profanity) cabbage in their burgers. 2022 is a complete meme.

  • ozbargained

  • Looks so sexy and tempting

  • absolute rip

    i use to pay 99c

  • Unless it's a wa thing never saw lettuces go over $4 in a supermarket

  • I feel so privileged so that $3 lettuce is only a 10 min walk from my location.

    Off topic.

Just having a rant that my local wollies and coles have berry’s (all types except straw) at about $6 or $7 per punnet (125g) until they go old and mouldy then marked down to $2 or $3.

So hardly no-one buying them when they are at their best or at their worst.

It's not the farmers putting prices up , they send to the produce markets where its sold in an auction setting.
You could get a cent or a dollar or two , out of that you pay an agent 15% + transport costs, which might be as much as $2 a box of lettuce these days.
Now minus the costs of farming- losses due to weather, labour, council rates , pesticide , fertilizer,
Tax , electric , telecom, water ,diesel ,more labour , accountant & bookkeeping , food , packing sheds , coolrooms , tractors , irrigation, maintenance, housing , water management, flood management, drought management, fire management , labour management , heat and cold , and God help you if anything goes wrong ect ect ect ect,

Then just break even is probably $3 in the current environment.

Then the supermarkets jack the prices 500% and blame their costs.
Farmers selling for 20-50c per head of lettuce , in normal times just for context
Then the city folk swallow the supermarkets propaganda, fed to you by , I don't know , maybe the 'News' stations that guess who advertise on in a big way.
It's big business and a cut throat game now and forever, with the little aussie farmer being at the very bottom.
Next time you want to blame someone for price gouging,
try the fn fre$h food people
(CEO , CFO, Board and Management) ,

    I know I do.

@Heaps for Cheaps: HaHa thanks but I wasn't fighting the Taliban,
just the Aussie fruit &veg mafia.
I grew organic avocados and bananas back when they were worth something ,
It was a realativty small family farm.
But I worked for bigger farms for second and third jobs ,
so I've seen how bigger operations go .

    • Seems like hard working people get screwed the most.
Time to quite my job and become a board member. How do I do that ?

  • Australia is pathetic for cost of living, Scandinavian prices with incomes flat as Simpsons desert. Indeed falling if you depend on pollies to set your wages.
