Returning or Warrantying an Olympus Camera That Was Used to Claim a Promotion?

I bought an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III Black 12-45mm PRO Lens Kit and claimed the free lens promotion (25mm f/1.8) from Olympus. Terms and conditions of promotion.

Now that I have the lens in hand, I tested the body and it's faulty. I would rather not deal with the hassle of exchanging it with the store or warrantying it in case I receive another faulty one. Is there any issue with returning the body+lens kit for a refund or is my only option to warranty it?

  • Depends on the retailer, you can ask them for a refund but they do not have to honor a refund request, they may only replace it for a new or refurbished unit.

…it in case I receive another faulty one.

I'd say that the chances of another faulty body is quite small.

Something sounds fishy here … 😅

    • I left the kit unopened until they confirmed the redemption was valid, just in case amazon wasn't considered an authorised retailer (it's not listed in their 'find a store').

The reason I'm wary of getting another faulty one is that I went into a store to check out their EM5 mk3 and it showed less severe version of the issue.

What did you define as faulty?

        • The port cover on the left comes open with gentle pressure from the outside. If I set it down on the side (similar to putting it into a bag), the cover will be open when lifting it up. Since even the OM1 has no seals inside the ports, and every other sealed camera requires you to pry the damn ports open with your fingernail, it looks like faulty weathersealing.

@Trysaeder: Send your promotional lens back with your "faulty" body then. You'll have no use for it without the body anyhow.

@Trysaeder: Severe fault because of loose rubber cover? You're being a sulky here. Unless you're professional photographer doing underwater shoot on a regular basis then carry on with it and stop abusing the process.

Agree with bobbified, seems like a sus story. The odds of you getting another bad one would be absolutely miniscule

What good is the Lens without a OM-D Body? (unless?)

    Go the Warranty.
