Amazing game. I've said this before but I'll say it again. Best in class for exploration and discovery.

    • +1

It's basically Dark Souls/Demon Souls, but with fantasy setting more familiar to Western audiences written by G R R Martin.

    • Agree to disagree on that one. I love Elden Ring too but in terms of nailing the sense of exploration and discovery, BOTW has it beat

      • its more mind blowing to know that BOTW is released in march 2017 and people are still discovering new ways of playing BOTW in 2022

  • +5

I want to play this game so much but I don’t know if I can handle how difficult it is!

    • I’m with you on that. Tempted at this price but still not 100% sure I’d be able to get through it.

      • +2

It's no where near as hard as Dark Souls games or Sekiro, as you can level and level until you get tough enough to beat a boss, and there is enough to explore that it is fun to do the levelling.
Unlike Dark Souls you have spirit ashes that you can summon to take the heat off during a battle.
You just need to find the right weapons and spells and spirit ashes for each encounter.
Eg the hardest fight for melee is probably Malenia iand I found this too hard for melee, but she doesn't dodge a spell called night comet.

      • +1

I would suggest you this if you ever get stuck or don't know what to do.

However, first thing I did is to try different classes on my own and explore starting area for 3-4 hours without looking at any guides or help online.

        • Starting class is not all that important to be honest. It only changes your starting stats and equipment, all of which can be changed anyway

    • +3

      Practice, practice, practice.

      • -1

The game really needs a stats page with e.g. death counts per boss/mob!!! Time spent fighting X!!!!

I'm not gonna run past Draconic Tree Sentinel!!!

    • It’s really not that difficult as if you get stuck, you can go and explore and level up and find new weapons before you tackle the main bosses.

Definitely easier than Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro.

Sunk in like 250 hours plus and it was totally worth it.

    • +2

Just do it, souls games are the best! Play it blind as much as you can, you can't relive the first time ever again.

      Forget build videos etc!

Just get in there and get smashed by Tree Sentinel then your eventual triumph will be that much sweeter

    • I'm not a massive fan of Souls games, and found this difficult at parts (yes, you will die a lot), but the game is fantastic.

I ended up finishing it, definitely worth a play.

    • Yeah, I was a bit skeptical as well due to a saving a similar issue with Bloodborne, however, there are heaps of getting started tutorials on YouTube and a ton of rune farming strategies that you can use to level up your character. You need a bit of patience but NGL once you get good, there's nothing like it.

    • I’m trash at video games and I’ve played the shit out of this… In you get stuck at a boss in Dark Souls, you need to replay the fight over and over to try and win. If you get stuck in Elden Ring, run off, go explore, grind and get your level up out in the open world, come back and smack the bosses ass. Yes, there’s a learning curve and you will die, but totally worth it. Buy the game. The exploration and sense of wonder is unparalleled!

    • +2

Its much easier IMO then the other Fromsoft games. TBH I think the fairer word is, its more "accessible". The way the game works is that there are really hard bosses and enemies. But because of how its open world you can spend a lot of time adventuring and leveling up that it drops the difficulty down a lot (or makes up for it).
So it really becomes up to you on how difficult it is. There wasn't really any point where I felt it was impossible, or like other FromSoft games where if you have a boss that feels impossible to you, there's nothing you can do besides "get better". You can always level up and come back. Or change tactics and come back etc.
Best of luck, I super enjoyed it!

Finished it after 150 or so hours, really took my time and explored a heap of stuff. Still never found it all but I had a LOT of fun (minus the Consecrated Snowfield).
    Great game for the price!

  • I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella

  • I've been waiting since release for a great deal on this, so I've snapped it up. Thanks OP!

  • So the game didn’t sell well I suppose?

I mean, that’s what some people say when other games go on sale too!

    • It only sold like 12 million copies, so if they sold for an average of $83 each then it hasn't even broken a billion dollars yet.

    • +1

Exhibit 1: Could be brought new at retail for less than $20 just six months after release, still takes two years to get to 10 million units shipped.

Exhibit 2: Sells over 13.4 million units in just first month of release, gets a modest but short-lived discount six months after release.

“I don’t see any difference between these two examples!”

JB Matched the price at $62 too

Why is it always you don't have the right?

  • -2

Is this as good as dynasty warriors series?

    • It's a 10/10 rated game, so…

    • +1

      Username checks out

Potentially spending another $80 for a new controller makes this a non-bargain LOL.
kidding aside, the game is an easy countless weeks of fun for its exploration, item and story depth!

SAVE yourself 100+ hours of endless deaths ON TOP of actually playing the game and go watch the 15 minutes of "all endings" on YouTube. This isn't a matter of "GIT GUD" it's a matter of time is life; i only got so many seconds to live and playing a game that endlessly punishes you for little mistakes or makes you replay a level 10-20-30 times until you "glitch it" and time/ do everything just right is just a legit waste of time/ life. Go ahead neg vote me :)

    • -1

      git gud

    • you gotta admit it's got nice music and great graphics tho.

i'm waiting for this to be a bit cheaper, as it's the same cost for me to upgrade my psn+ to get access to the game collections… so now i have access ti like 20+ games i personally want to play through before even getting to elden ring.

    • playing a game that endlessly punishes you for little mistakes or makes you replay a level 10-20-30 times until you "glitch it" and time/ do everything just righ

See other posts above - I think you're talking about a different game. In Elden Ring, you generally only get stuck because you aren't levelled highly enough - instead of doing all the things you mention, you can just leave the area and go do something else ! Then come back when you're stronger.

  • Best game I have played in years! Last time I was this impressed with a game was with GoW

  • This game is good for a student or someone who doesn't have a job. Someone with a lot of energy to burn. Not suitable for people who work a whole day and have no patience and energy to deal with this and just want something fun
