Help Needed - Etihad Guest Membership

I hope someone who has Etihad Guest membership can help.

I have booked international flight 6 months ago and wasn't aware that you need to pay to secure seat. Either I will need to wait 48 hrs departure (which may result in all available seats being gone if Etihad did overbooking) or I need to get Silver status which allows free seating via manage booking option..

I can transfer points from Amex rewards to get 25k Tier Miles(Silver Status), however what's the best way to utilise those miles after booking seats?

I understand you may convert into rewards cash card but Etihad App is buggy and not even working, so can't workout the conversation rate.

Amex rewards to Etihad guest miles is 2 points per mile. 25k tier miles require 50k Amex rewards points which are otherwise equivalent to $250.

Thanks for your help.

How much is it to just pay for it, no points?

Also - assuming that the seats will be gone means that every single other person on your flight has paid for them, which I doubt will happen. Just make sure you check in and choose when it opens.

    • Seats are available for $43 per leg so will be looking at $86 one way. We are 2 adults so total will be $344 for return trips for 2 people.

Yes I know 2nd person also need their owner Silver membership for free seating.

I think you're worrying too much. It would be very unlikely they would have oversold seats so significantly that there are not 2 available to free select at the 48hour mark.
Take a look at how many are currently available for selection (idk how many days or weeks until the flight) to give you an idea.

Personally I would just have an alarm set for 5 minutes before that 48 hours check in window opens and be first on to select free seats

    • You are right as I may be just overthinking.

If you cant get seats together during that 48 hour period pre flight (sometimes they block out seats during the online selection), you can try checking-in together. If you check-in together at the airport, they often will try and put you together (subject to availability, of course)..

  • For most airlines, you can't move up the tier by transferring points. They usually required you to FLY in order to qualify for their tier status.
