Streaming from PC to Laptop/iPad

HI All

I have a modest PC that i wanted to stream from - the PC is in the study and i want to be able to sit on the couch and play games off it - is this a thing? Can it be done wirelessly or does it have to be ethernet? I gather you can stream from steam to steam (ie the pc has the games installed via steam, the laptop, or other device, connects to this and plays them without installing?) but i wasnt sure if its possible to play games that are installed outside of steam?

Sorry if this is a noob question….

Thanks

Thanks for the tips! Im giving moonlight a whirl

  • Don't forget to check your smart TV if you have one there as well. I'm using the Steam Link app on my Samsung smart TV in the lougeroom, works on wifi but ethernet will be better.

  • Best lag free way is long HDMI cord and gamepad

Steamlink is laggy even with Ethernet.

Works on paper but quality is greatly diminished.

  • I use Steam Remote Play but wired because the latency on wireless is just enough to bug me. Still works well for me as they've added options to allow up to 100Mbps bandwidth for streaming (for better quality).

I've heard good things about Nvidia SHIELD but was put off by needing to buy the hardware (not sure if you can just download the software and use it on any computer like Steam).
